The Mid-Autumn Festival is here. Are you ready to feast on mooncakes, barbecue, and the seasonal fruit pomelo? Nutritionists Huang Linhui and Li Peiyin from the Hsinchu Affiliated Hospital of Chinese University of Traditional Chinese Medicine remind us that grapefruit is delicious and nutritious. It is rich in vitamin C, which can prevent the body from being damaged by free radicals and also fight aging. It also contains dietary fiber, which can promote gastrointestinal motility.

Nutritionist Li Peiyin and chef He Wenzheng have teamed up to design three simple pomelo dishes, including "Pomelo Sauce Vegetable and Fruit Bars", "Pomelo Cheese Grilled Fish", and "Sweet Pomelo Fruit Vinegar", so that everyone can enjoy pomelo dishes in addition to barbecue and mooncakes during the Mid-Autumn Festival. 【3 simple dishes with grapefruit】

First course: "Vegetable and fruit bars with pomelo sauce"

<Ingredients>: 1 cucumber, 1 carrot, 1 celery, 1 wild rice shoot, 1/6 pineapple, romaine leaves, sauce (yuzu juice, yuzu pulp, extra virgin avocado oil, chopped onion, chopped tomato, salt, sugar, red wine vinegar).

<Preparation>: Cut the main vegetables into strips, blanch the carrots and wild rice shoots and set aside, dissolve the grapefruit juice, salt and sugar, add the remaining sauce ingredients, and pour it on the vegetable strips to finish.

Second course: Grilled fish with grapefruit and cheese

〈Ingredients〉:

1 fish fillet, a little minced garlic, a little minced shallot, a little shredded onion, a little white pepper, a little flour, rice wine, sauce (yuzu juice, yuzu pulp, lemon juice, salt, mirin, unsalted butter, broth).

<Preparation>: First marinate the fish fillets with salt, pepper and rice wine, pat them with flour and fry until they are browned. Take an appropriate amount of butter, add garlic, shallots and onions and sauté until fragrant, then add broth and fish fillets. After the fish fillets are cooked, take them out and put them on a baking tray. Add grapefruit juice, grapefruit pulp and lemon juice to the remaining soup in the pot, mix well and pour over the fish fillets. Sprinkle with shredded cheese and bake until they are browned.

Third course: Sweet grapefruit vinegar

〈Ingredients〉: grapefruit juice, grapefruit pulp, apple, red dragon fruit, fruit vinegar, honey, ice cubes.

〈Preparation〉: Dice the fruit, choose the fruit vinegar flavor according to personal preference and add honey to boiling water. After it dissolves, add fruit and ice cubes and enjoy.

Nutritionist Li Peiyin pointed out that grapefruit is rich in vitamin C, up to 18 times that of apples. It has antioxidant function, helps prevent the body from being damaged by free radicals, and can also fight aging. Grapefruit is also rich in dietary fiber. The Ministry of Health and Welfare recommends a daily intake of 20 to 35 grams of dietary fiber. One grapefruit contains about 5 grams, which is equivalent to 2 plates of sweet potato leaves, and can promote gastrointestinal motility.

【Four reminders for eating grapefruit】

However, nutritionist Huang Linhui said that you should not eat too much grapefruit. Here are 4 reminders:

1. Grapefruit is high in potassium ions, which helps maintain nerve health, normal heartbeat, and normal muscle contraction, avoids high blood pressure and prevents stroke. However, patients with kidney disease are reminded not to consume it in excess.

2. The "furanocoumarins" contained in grapefruit will affect the action of drugs, easily slow down the metabolism of drugs, and increase the chance of side effects. It is recommended to eat them at an interval of more than 2 hours. Therefore, people who have been taking blood pressure drugs, blood lipid drugs, immunosuppressants, antiarrhythmic drugs and other drugs for a long time should pay more attention.

3. The Ministry of Health and Welfare's "Daily Dietary Guidelines" recommends consuming 2 to 4 servings of fruit per day, which contains 120 to 240 calories. The delicious taste of grapefruit is irresistible, and diabetic patients should only consume 2 servings a day and not exceed the amount.

4. Grapefruit is also rich in dietary fiber, but because grapefruit fiber is difficult to digest, people who often suffer from diarrhea should not eat too much.
