Do I need surgery for uterine fibroids? Medication for uterine fibroids

With the popularization of women's disease examination, more and more women are diagnosed with uterine fibroids. Some people know that they have fibroids and think they have a terminal illness, which makes them nervous, while some people are eager for surgery. So do uterine fibroids require surgery? Experts point out that there are different treatment methods according to different situations, the size and number of uterine fibroids. Generally, uterine fibroids do not require surgery.

If the tumor is less than 5CM, medication can control its growth. If it is more than 5CM, doctors will recommend surgical treatment. Generally speaking, a single fibroid can be removed surgically. If it is multiple and the patient has not entered menopause, doctors will recommend hysterectomy to prevent the fibroids from growing again.

Whether treatment is needed depends mainly on the size of the fibroids and whether the menstruation is excessive; the number, growth location and degeneration of the fibroids should also be considered whether treatment is needed.

Generally, the standard for surgical treatment is that the fibroids (together with the uterus) reach the size of a uterus of two and a half months of pregnancy, or even if it is not so large, but the menstruation is heavy and drug treatment is ineffective, leading to anemia, surgery should be considered. Surgery can also be considered for the degeneration of fibroids, such as glass degeneration. The degeneration mentioned here is not a malignant change, but a degenerative change. Multiple fibroids or fibroids grow close to the uterine cavity (called submucosal fibroids).

As for the treatment of uterine fibroids, most of them do not require surgery, just regular follow-up and no psychological burden. Only those patients who do have surgical characteristics should undergo surgical treatment.
