Can progesterone treat amenorrhea?

Can progesterone treat amenorrhea?

Progesterone , also known as progesterone, is a progestogen that is often used to artificially adjust the menstrual cycle in clinical practice . However, progesterone is not a panacea . For menstrual abnormalities such as amenorrhea , it is best for patients to undergo targeted treatment after a detailed examination to determine the specific cause . Progesterone is a prescription drug and must be used under the guidance of a doctor . Progesterone has side effects and should be used with caution .

Progesterone is a natural progestogen secreted by the corpus luteum of the ovary . It has a significant morphological effect on the endometrium stimulated by estrogen in the body and is necessary for maintaining pregnancy . Its pharmacological effects are mainly :

① In the late menstrual cycle, the glands in the uterine mucosa grow , the uterus becomes congested , and the endometrium thickens , preparing for the implantation of the fertilized egg . After the fertilized egg is implanted , the placenta is produced, and the excitability of the pregnant uterus is reduced , its activity is inhibited , and the fetus grows safely .

②Under the combined action of estrogen , it promotes full breast development and prepares for milk production .

③ It closes the cervix , reduces and thickens the mucus , and makes it difficult for sperm to penetrate ; in large doses, it inhibits the secretion of pituitary gonadotropin through negative feedback on the hypothalamus , thus inhibiting ovulation .

④ Competitively antagonizes aldosterone , promotes the excretion of sodium ions and chloride ions and promotes diuresis .

⑤It has a mild effect of increasing body temperature , making the basal body temperature higher during the luteal phase of the menstrual cycle .

When women find themselves suffering from amenorrhea symptoms , they must go to the hospital for examination and receive targeted treatment in time . Do not take progesterone blindly to avoid side effects of drugs due to improper use , which may harm your health .
