What are the causes of vulvar skin atrophy? Why does the vulva atrophy occur in patients with vulvar leukoplakia? First, primary vulvar atrophy: in elderly women after menopause, the ovarian function declines, the estrogen level decreases, and the target organs atrophy accordingly; second, vulvar white lesions: divided into proliferative type, lichen sclerosus type and mixed type. Among them, after a long period of time, the inflammatory lesions of the lichen sclerosus type cause the elastic tissue of the dermis to disappear and fibrosis occurs, and the clitoris and labia minora atrophy; third, lichen planus: caused by chronic stimulation such as leucorrhea and scratching, often complicated by severe atrophic changes; fourth, vulvar leukoplakia: it is a proliferative change of the vulvar mucosa, and 10% to 20% will undergo malignant changes. It may be caused by long-term stimulation such as trauma, inflammation, allergy, infection, etc., and may eventually cause vulvar skin atrophy.
