Obesity is like a frog in boiling water, a breeding ground for chronic diseases

"Although I am overweight, I have no physical discomfort, so I am healthy," or "Although I am obese, the blood test report shows no abnormalities, so I am healthy." Many people have these myths. In fact, there is no such thing as being "fat and healthy"! What is more noteworthy is that obesity erodes our health every day and is a chronic killer, just like "boiling a frog in warm water". We must be careful!

Dr. Lin Zhengyi said that obesity is a breeding ground for chronic diseases. Obesity poses a threat to children's health and increases the risk of chronic diseases such as diabetes, metabolic syndrome, dyslipidemia, hypertension, coronary heart disease, etc., endangering lifelong health. Therefore, obesity should be seen as a "pathology" rather than just a "body shape". Being fat is not a blessing.

The World Health Organization (WHO) clearly announced in 1997 that obesity is a disease. At least 2.8 million people die from overweight or obesity every year, so obese people are not healthy. At present, there is no physical discomfort and no abnormalities in the blood test report. In fact, this is because the organs and tissues in our body are working hard to support the obese people (the so-called compensatory effect). Just think about it, if one day you can’t hold on any longer, the complications of obesity will be like a dam bursting, and it will be out of control!

Obesity can cause chronic inflammation

Dr. Lin Zhengyi pointed out that many people think that obesity is just a problem of body shape or appearance, but in fact, fat cells will secrete inflammatory factors, which put the body in a vicious cycle of chronic inflammation, causing chronic damage to organs and tissues throughout the body, and then further cause complications such as diabetes, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, metabolic syndrome, cardiovascular disease (such as myocardial infarction), cerebrovascular disease (such as stroke), fatty liver, chronic kidney disease, degenerative arthritis, infertility, and even cancer.

It is because when our weight gradually increases, the body will bear the damage caused by obesity through compensation, so no uncomfortable symptoms or diseases will appear immediately, so it is easy for everyone to ignore its harm. However, once the accumulated damage from obesity exceeds the upper limit that can be borne, these complications will erupt one by one, and by then it will be too late to regret.

Obesity is preventable

Everyone is afraid of cancer and pays attention to its related symptoms, but often does not take obesity seriously. In fact, obesity is a disease that has many similarities with cancer. Both obesity and cancer put the body in a state of chronic inflammation, and the diet or lifestyle that leads to both diseases is very similar, and both are preventable. To prevent cancer, you need to avoid contact with carcinogens (such as cigarettes). To prevent obesity, the key is to understand "how to eat and drink"!

"Three Lows and One High" diet as the principle of weight loss

Nutritionist Lai Yiru said that we should develop the habit of eating three meals at regular times and in regular amounts. Many people are accustomed to skipping breakfast, or they are too busy at work to have time for lunch. This will prompt the body to increase the absorption rate of calories for the next meal, and may even cause hunger at night and eat midnight snacks, which can easily lead to weight gain.

Secondly, control the total calories and ensure a balanced nutrition. Most people think that losing weight is just a matter of "eating less", but they ignore the balance of nutrition. If they blindly choose certain foods, even if the total calories do not exceed the standard, the various "nutrients" needed by the body will be unbalanced. This will not only affect physical health, but also greatly reduce the effectiveness of weight loss.

When choosing food, follow the principle of "three lows and one high". The three lows are less oil, less sugar and less salt, and the one high is a high-fiber diet. Some people may think that such food is not delicious, but to be honest, the deliciousness of fresh ingredients does not need to be set off by high oil, high sugar and high salt. On the contrary, people who eat heavy-flavored foods not only suffer from health problems, but are also prone to obesity.

Finally, drink plenty of water and reduce drinking at social events. Taiwanese people love to drink beverages, but most of these beverages contain sugar, which will increase their sugar intake. The high calories in alcoholic beverages cannot be ignored! In addition, the calories from dinner parties and social gatherings are generally higher than regular meals. If you always accept everyone who comes to social gatherings, it will be difficult not to gain weight.

By following the above four key points and developing such eating habits, most people can successfully prevent obesity! If you follow these dietary principles but still gain weight, there may be other reasons and you should seek help from a professional doctor. Do not be fooled by online remedies or hearsay to lose weight on your own, as this may cause you to lose weight instead of hurting your body.
