Is cervical cancer caused by cervical erosion?

Is cervical cancer caused by cervical erosion?

Cervical cancer is not caused by simple cervical erosion, but simple cervical erosion may develop into atypical hyperplasia or carcinoma in situ. When women find abnormal conditions such as contact bleeding and increased vaginal discharge, it is recommended to go to the hospital for TCT and HPV examinations in time, and further colposcopy biopsy can be performed to confirm the diagnosis if necessary.

1. Cause: Under normal circumstances, the surface of the cervix is covered by squamous epithelial cells. Due to the effect of estrogen, the entire surface of the cervix of some women before puberty is covered by a single layer of columnar epithelial cells, which is clinically called cervical erosion. After entering puberty, as the estrogen level in the body increases, the squamous epithelial cells on the outermost part of the cervix thicken to form squamous epithelial cell metaplasia and migrate to the cervical opening. At this time, if there is no external stimulation, they will gradually be replaced by squamous epithelial cells, that is, squamous epithelial cells completely replace columnar epithelial cells from the inside to the outside, so that the cervical erosion-like changes cannot be observed with the naked eye. Therefore, simple cervical erosion will not lead to the occurrence of cervical cancer, but if you do not pay attention to vulvar hygiene, frequently undergo artificial abortion surgery, or have multiple sexual partners, it may cause long-term cervical inflammation, thereby increasing the risk of cervical cancer.

2. Treatment: If only cervical erosion occurs, no special treatment is generally required, because cervical erosion is a physiological change and usually does not affect physical health. However, if there is a concurrent infection, anti-inflammatory drugs such as azithromycin tablets and cefixime dispersible tablets need to be actively administered to promote recovery.

In addition, for patients who have already developed cervical cancer, the early symptoms are mainly contact bleeding, accompanied by increased vaginal discharge and lower abdominal pain, and in the late stage, symptoms of systemic exhaustion such as fever, weight loss, and fatigue will appear. Once diagnosed, you should cooperate with the doctor for surgical resection treatment as soon as possible, and also need to combine radiotherapy, chemotherapy and other methods for auxiliary treatment to prolong the patient's survival time as much as possible.
