What is the cause of cervical erosion in women? Will cervical erosion lead to infertility?

Cervical erosion is a common gynecological disease. Since there are no obvious symptoms before the disease, some female friends do not pay much attention to it. However, when obvious symptoms appear, it is very difficult to treat. So what is cervical erosion?

Cervical erosion

Cervical erosion occurs due to childbirth, miscarriage, postpartum infection or surgical operation or mechanical stimulation such as sexual life damaging the cervix, pathogen invasion and infection. I hope to attract everyone's attention. Because the penis and cervix are in direct contact during sexual intercourse, if you do not pay attention to sexual hygiene, you can directly bring bacteria into the vagina and infect the cervix; and for women who have cervical erosion, it can aggravate their cervical inflammation and may expand the erosion surface. Severe cervical erosion sometimes causes bleeding during sexual intercourse. Therefore, whether women suffer from cervical erosion or not, they must pay attention to sexual hygiene. Both men and women should wash the vulva before sexual intercourse, and men should pay attention to removing smegma, because it is currently believed that the cholesterol in the smegma can be transformed into carcinogens under the action of bacteria. Active treatment is also required after suffering from cervical erosion.

The cervical erosion grading method is divided into three degrees: mild, moderate and severe according to the size of the erosion area. When the erosion area is less than 1/3 of the entire cervical area, it is mild cervical erosion; when the erosion area occupies between 1/3 and 2/3 of the cervical area, it is moderate erosion; when the erosion area occupies more than 2/3 of the entire cervical area, it is severe erosion.

The manifestations of cervical erosion can be divided into three types

1. Simplicity

Erosions are often seen in the early stages of inflammation. The erosion surface is covered by a single layer of columnar epithelium, and the epidermis is relatively flat and smooth.

2. Granular type

If the inflammation continues, the cervical epithelium will overproliferate, and the erosion surface will be uneven and granular in appearance, which is granular erosion.

3. Nipple type

If the glandular epithelium and stroma proliferate significantly, the unevenness becomes more obvious, and it becomes papillary-like, which is called papillary erosion.

These three types can exist independently or coexist in an interlaced manner.

Can cervical erosion cause infertility?

Under normal circumstances, mild cervical erosion will not affect pregnancy, so you don’t need to worry too much. However, moderate to severe cervical erosion may affect normal pregnancy.

Because moderate to severe cervical erosion produces a lot of cervical secretions mixed with a large number of white blood cells and various pathogenic bacteria, these substances destroy the normal acid-base environment of the vagina, thereby reducing the activity of sperm. In addition, the cervical mucosa proliferates due to inflammation, and polyps may grow to block the cervical opening, directly affecting the smooth passage of sperm.

Cervical erosion is one of the manifestations of cervicitis. Mild cervicitis will not cause infertility. The cervix is just one of the passages for sperm and is part of the uterus. The gestational sac is implanted in the uterine cavity. Cervicitis can cause an increase in leucorrhea, bleeding during sexual intercourse, and physical discomfort. Sometimes there is pain during sexual intercourse. Cervicitis is also very difficult to treat. Therefore, women should pay more attention to sexual health awareness.
