What is Bartholinitis

What is Bartholinitis

What is Bartholin's glanditis? This is a relatively unfamiliar disease for female friends, but it is also a gynecological disease. What are the specific symptoms and what are its causes? Let's take a detailed look at this disease, Bartholin's glanditis.

Overview

Bartholinitis is an inflammation of the Bartholin's glands, which are located in the lower third of the labia majora on both sides. Their diameter is about 0.5-1.0 cm, and their exit ducts are about 1.5-2.0 cm long. The gland opening is located on the inner side of the labia minora near the hymen. Under the stimulation of sexual intercourse, mucus is secreted for lubrication. Due to the special anatomical location, pathogens can easily invade and cause Bartholinitis.

Causes

The Bartholin's glands are located in the deep gland ducts of the labia majora on both sides, opening between the hymen and the labia minora. Due to the characteristics of the anatomical location, pathogens can easily invade and cause Bartholin's gland inflammation when the vulva is contaminated during sexual intercourse, childbirth, or other situations. When the Bartholin's glands are infected, the gland ducts are often affected first, and the gland duct openings are blocked due to inflammation, congestion, and edema, which makes it difficult for secretions and exudates to be discharged, and Bartholin's gland abscesses may form.

Pathogenesis

This disease is often a mixed infection, with complex pathogens. The main pathogens are endogenous pathogens and pathogens of sexually transmitted diseases. In China, most of them are Staphylococcus, Streptococcus, Escherichia coli, and Neisseria gonorrhoeae. In some areas abroad and in China, Neisseria gonorrhoeae is the main cause. It can also be caused by anaerobic bacteria (including Bacteroides).
