What causes vulvar itching?

Vulvar pruritus is one of the diseases with a relatively high incidence rate in female gynecological outpatient clinics. Many women are also concerned about this. The occurrence of vulvar pruritus usually interferes with women's daily life and work. If it is not treated in time, it will develop into stubborn pruritus which is more difficult to cure. So what is the cause of vulvar pruritus?

What causes vulvar itching? Here are six reasons for vulvar itching in women:

1. Gynecological inflammation: Irritating vaginal discharge, whether in large quantities or in small amounts, can irritate the vulvar skin and cause itching. The most common is trichomoniasis or candidal vaginitis. When infected with trichomoniasis, the leucorrhea will suddenly increase, appear grayish yellow, sometimes purulent, contain foam, have a bad smell, and can cause severe vulvar itching, burning sensation, pain, etc.

2. Ovarian dysfunction: Due to the gradual decline of ovarian function in menopausal women, the vulva gradually shrinks, the skin becomes thinner and loses elasticity, the vulva becomes dry and uncomfortable, and itching may also occur.

3. Allergic reaction: After taking certain drugs, patients may experience drug rash or urticaria. In addition to systemic reactions, the vulva may also experience allergic reactions. At this time, the vulva may also itch due to contact with certain drugs, chemicals, or wearing chemical fiber underwear. Tight underwear, friction of underwear, and stimulation of menstrual belts can also cause itching. Due to lack of attention to the hygiene of the vulva, stimulation from vaginal secretions, vulvar secretions, sweat, etc., moisture, immersion, chemical fiber underwear, unqualified menstrual belts, rough toilet paper, allergies caused by medication in the vulva and vagina, and frequent use of soap to wash the vulva can all cause vulvar itching.

4. Diabetes: Diabetes is a metabolic defect disease, with typical symptoms of polydipsia, polyphagia and polyuria. The blood sugar concentration is too high, and it can be excreted locally from the kidneys, so the urine contains sugar. Since sugar urine is irritating, if it is attached to the vulva, it will cause itching. According to statistics, 3.4 out of 500 diabetic patients have localized itching, mainly vulvar itching.

5. Systemic diseases: Systemic diseases mainly include diabetes, anemia, leukemia, polycythemia, skin diseases, liver and gallbladder diseases (such as jaundice), kidney diseases, lymphoma, etc. In addition to systemic itching, it is often accompanied by vulvar itching. It is mainly treated for different medical diseases. If the medical diseases are improved, the vulvar itching will naturally improve.

6. Hygiene habits: Not having the habit of washing the vulva can also cause itching. The vulva has many wrinkles. If a lot of grayish-white dirt accumulates in the wrinkles, it will irritate the delicate mucous membrane and skin. On the contrary, some women are too particular about disinfection and sterility, and often use alkaline soap to wash the vulva, which will cause excessive degreasing and dryness of the vulva, which will also cause itching.

The above is an introduction to what causes female vulvar itching. Vulvar itching is actually not terrible. As long as the cause is found out and you actively cooperate with the doctor for symptomatic treatment, it can be completely cured. However, you should not take it lightly after being cured. Post-cure care is equally important and should not be underestimated.
