Symptoms of atrophic and hyperplastic vulvar leukoplakia are different

The lesions of vulvar leukoplakia are mostly located between the clitoris, labia minora and the inner groove of the labia majora, and sometimes occur in the vestibule, vagina, urethral orifice, posterior symphysis, etc., often in a symmetrical manner. According to the clinical symptoms of the patients, it can be divided into atrophic vulvar leukoplakia and hyperplastic vulvar leukoplakia. Only by giving appropriate treatment according to the patient's condition can a certain therapeutic effect be achieved.

Symptoms of patients with atrophic vulvar leukoplakia

Some patients with mild atrophic leukoplakia may experience mild itching, no white lesions, and the atrophy of the vulva is not obvious. Patients with moderate atrophic leukoplakia have mild atrophy of the vulva, the elasticity of the labia is significantly reduced, and patients may experience discomfort during sexual intercourse. Severe atrophic patients have atrophy of the urethra, and severe cases may suffer from urinary incontinence. Due to the reduced elasticity of the perianal skin, anal fissures may occur during defecation.

Symptoms of patients with hyperplastic vulvar leukoplakia

Patients with mild hyperplastic vulvar leukoplakia mainly experience vulvar pruritus, which is significantly aggravated at night. The skin becomes red, swollen, and damaged due to scratching due to the itch, and a burning sensation may occur. Patients with moderate hyperplasia have keratinization and hyperplasia in the lesion area, and mild hypopigmentation appears on the inner side of the labia, forming dots or small white papules. Patients with severe hyperplasia have severe keratinization and hyperplasia in the affected area, and may experience itching and pain, which is often unbearable for patients.
