What are the examination items for uterine fibroids?

Uterine fibroids can have a certain impact on fertility, so early diagnosis and early treatment are very important. The relevant examination items include the following:

1. Ultrasound examination

Ultrasound is now widely used to detect uterine fibroids, with an accuracy rate of more than 90%. Ultrasound can show the location, size, number of fibroids, whether they are uniform or liquefied, and whether they compress other organs. Ultrasound can help diagnose uterine fibroids and distinguish whether they are degenerated, as well as help differentiate ovarian tumors and other pelvic masses.

2. X-ray film

When uterine fibroids are calcified, their X-rays show a shell-like calcified capsule, or a honeycomb with rough, wavy edges.

3. Diagnostic curettage

Small submucosal fibroids, dysfunctional uterine bleeding, endometrial polyps, etc. are difficult to detect through bimanual examination, and curettage can be used to assist in diagnosis.

4. Hysterosalpingography

Hysterosalpingography helps in the early diagnosis of submucosal fibroids. The method is simple and can show the number, size, location, etc. of the fibroids.

5. Detection of the uterine cavity

Intramural fibroids and submucosal fibroids often enlarge and deform the uterine cavity. Using a probe to measure the size and direction of the uterine cavity and comparing it with the findings in biphasic clinic can help determine the presence, nature and location of a mass.

In addition to the above situations, CT and MRI can also be used for examinations for patients with special needs.
