The trend of younger abortions needs to be reversed

On May 19, Professor Chen Yijun of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences published an investigation report, saying that the trend of underage girls having abortions in China is getting worse and worse, with the proportion of underage patients reaching 40 to 50%. According to Chen Yijun's investigation, a case of a 9-year-old girl having an abortion was found in Nanning, Guangxi, and the person responsible was a 13-year-old boy. (Guangzhou Daily, May 20)

In fact, in recent years, there have been many discussions in the academic community about the issue of young abortions, but it has never attracted the attention of education, government and the whole society. As a result, the trend of young abortions has not been curbed and reversed, but has become more and more serious. It can be said that young abortions have become a serious social problem, not just an educational problem, and the whole society cannot ignore it.

The harm caused by the trend of younger abortions, repeated abortions and high-level abortions is self-evident. It not only harms the health of underage girls, but may also cause a variety of diseases and even leave long-term hidden dangers for future pregnancy and childbirth, threatening the life, health and safety of mothers and babies. At the same time, the trend of younger abortions will leave a deep psychological shadow on girls, directly affecting the future lives of underage girls.

Undoubtedly, the direct cause of the low-age abortion is undoubtedly the low-age sex life and the lack of scientific knowledge of abortion among minors. They do not take abortion seriously and think that curettage is as easy as peeling a potato. However, the deep-seated reasons behind it, in my opinion, are mainly two points. On the one hand, schools and families lack effective sex education, contraceptive knowledge, and abortion knowledge education for minors, which leads to the lack of scientific knowledge of sex life and abortion among minors, reduces the self-protection awareness of minors, and leads to the bad consequences of low-age sex life and low-age abortion. On the other hand, there is a lack of effective supervision, and many hospitals pursue economic interests and ignore social responsibilities, posting and distributing false abortion advertisements indiscriminately. Even a few hospitals post abortion advertisements on middle school campuses, which misleads minors and reinforces the indifferent concept of abortion among minors, thinking that abortion is harmless and is just an ordinary minor operation.

In other words, from the perspective of protecting the healthy growth of minors, the trend of younger abortions needs to be reversed and must be reversed. In order to curb and reverse the trend of younger abortions, educators, the government and families must assume their due responsibilities, build a "firewall" and do a good job of unblocking. All this is urgent. First of all, schools and families must face up to the issue of sex education for minors and can no longer cover it up. They must strengthen sex education for minors from the primary school stage, teach correct sexual concepts and sexual knowledge, and let primary and secondary school students have a more scientific and rational understanding of gender relations to avoid the younger sex life of minors. Only by avoiding the younger sex life can we prevent the younger abortion. Secondly, as the famous actor Pu Cunxin said, if it is impossible to curb and eliminate the younger sex life, then schools and families must strengthen the teaching and education of scientific knowledge of contraception and emergency contraception for primary and secondary school students, so that underage girls can enhance their awareness of protection, learn self-protection, understand contraception knowledge, and avoid the bad consequences of impulsive eating forbidden fruit and pregnancy. This is the second best choice. Thirdly, we must provide abortion education to primary and secondary school students, especially female students, so that they can understand the great harm abortion can cause to their bodies and future lives, and let minors know the dangers of premature sexual activity and premature pregnancy. Moreover, minors should be made aware that in case of an unexpected pregnancy, they should have an abortion as early as possible, and try to terminate the pregnancy within three months. Finally, government departments must strengthen the management of abortion advertisements in hospitals, prohibit the overwhelming abortion advertisements, and absolutely prohibit the posting and distribution of abortion advertisements around schools. Abortion advertisements must no longer mislead and poison minors.

In short, to eliminate, curb and reverse the trend of younger abortions, we cannot rely solely on minors to heal themselves; the government, schools, families and society must all participate; none of them can be missing.
