How to quickly diagnose bacterial vaginosis?

Bacterial vaginitis is also known as nonspecific vaginitis, Gardnerella vaginitis, etc. Bacterial vaginitis is caused by a mixed infection of vaginal Gardnerella and some anaerobic bacteria. The incidence rate is higher among people with promiscuous sexual relationships. The prominent clinical manifestation is increased vaginal discharge and a fishy smell. Do you know about bacterial vaginitis? How is bacterial vaginitis diagnosed?

The diagnostic criteria for bacterial vaginosis are:

1. Clue cells can be detected in wet smears of vaginal secretions.

2. Vaginal discharge is grayish white, very sticky, even like paste, and uniform, but it is not purulent discharge, and the amount is variable.

3. The pH value of vaginal secretions increases, with a pH range of 5.0-5.5, while the normal range is 4.5-4.7. This is a necessary diagnostic criterion for bacterial vaginitis.

4. The amine content in the secretion is particularly high, so it has a fishy smell. During sexual intercourse or after activity, the smell is often aggravated due to the release of amines. Adding 10% potassium hydroxide to the secretion can also release the amine smell.

If three or more of the above four criteria are met, the patient can be diagnosed with bacterial vaginitis. The treatment of bacterial vaginitis must also follow the doctor's advice and cannot be treated blindly to avoid causing multiple complications.
