Experts introduce to you: What is the cause of vulvar leukoplakia?

Vulvar leukoplakia is usually divided into three types: atrophic vulvar leukoplakia, hyperplastic vulvar leukoplakia and mixed vulvar leukoplakia. The hyperplastic and atrophic types each have three stages, while the mixed vulvar leukoplakia is a mixture of the first two.

1. Typical symptoms of hyperplastic vulvar leukoplakia at different stages.

The main symptom of stage I hyperplastic type is vulvar itching. Some patients have severe itching, which worsens at night. Scratching often causes redness, swelling and ulceration, and may cause burning and other discomfort.

In the stage II hyperplastic type, in addition to the symptoms of stage I, the skin in the lesion area shows keratinization and hyperplasia, and the vulvar skin has mild local hypopigmentation (usually occurring on the inner side of the labia majora and minora), in the form of dots or small white papules, with a frosty white surface.

In stage III hyperplastic type, the skin keratinization proliferates severely, the keratin layer falls off repeatedly, or scratching causes vulvar irudation, edema, fissures, ulceration and erosion. There may be itching accompanied by pain. Patients feel that the symptoms are severe, but the treatment effect of this type of patients is rapid. Within one course of treatment, the symptoms of about 85% of patients are basically eliminated.

2. Symptoms of mixed vulvar leukoplakia.

When patients with hyperplastic and atrophic types of vulvar leukoplakia progress to the late stage II to stage III, they generally develop mixed symptoms of the two types.
