What is acute cervicitis?

Cervicitis has a great impact on women, making them look haggard. There are two main types of cervicitis, acute cervicitis and chronic cervicitis. So, what is acute cervicitis? Let me introduce it to you below.

What is acute cervicitis? Its symptoms include increased vaginal discharge, which is mucopurulent. The stimulation of vaginal discharge can cause vulvar itching, accompanied by backache and lower abdominal pain. In addition, there are often lower urinary tract symptoms, such as urgency, frequency, and pain when urinating. Chlamydia trachomatis infection can also cause increased menstrual flow, intermenstrual bleeding, and bleeding after sexual intercourse. Gynecological examination shows congestion, edema, and erosion of the cervix, with mucopurulent discharge flowing out of the cervical canal. Chlamydia cervicitis can cause redness and swelling of the cervix, mucosal eversion, cervical tenderness, and often contact bleeding.

Symptoms of acute cervicitis include redness and swelling of the cervix, congestion and edema of the cervical mucosa, congestion of blood vessels, infiltration of a large number of neutrophils around the cervical mucosa and submucosal tissues and glands, purulent secretions in the glandular cavity, and secretions that can flow out through the external cervical opening, indicating acute inflammatory changes.

Acute cervicitis can be found in colposcopy examination with acute congestion of the cervix, red mucosa, and covered with reticular blood vessels or dot-shaped and spiral blood vessels. When combined with glandular infection, many scattered yellow vesicular pus spots can be seen on the surface of the cervix, and the gland opening is filled with pus.

After bacterial infection, the cervix will become congested and edematous, the mucous membrane of the cervical canal will turn outward, and a large amount of pus will often flow out of the cervical canal. The patient mainly feels an increase in vaginal discharge, which can be purulent, thin yellow purulent, or foamy, and sometimes has a foul odor, accompanied by vulvar itching, back pain, and lower abdominal distension and discomfort. Some patients also experience pain during sexual intercourse. If the lesion involves the cervix's neighbors - the urethra, bladder, or uterosacral ligament, symptoms such as urgency, frequency, pain when urinating, and pain in the lumbosacral region will occur.

The above is an introduction to what acute cervicitis is. It is recommended that you go to a regular hospital to treat the disease. If you have any questions, you can consult an online doctor and the experts will provide more helpful information.
