What are the dangers of ovarian cysts?

Ovarian cysts are benign tumors that can occur on one or both ovaries. The cause is generally related to the imbalance of androgen secretion in women. When the condition is serious, the cyst may rupture, become malignant, torsion, or even cancer. It is important to develop the habit of regular physical examinations so that the disease can be discovered in time, diagnosed and treated as soon as possible, and the harm is less.

1. Cyst rupture

The most direct harm of ovarian cysts in the later stage is cyst rupture. Cyst rupture is caused by spontaneous rupture due to ischemic necrosis of the cyst wall or cyst erosion. Traumatic rupture caused by squeezing, delivery, infertility examination and puncture. After rupture, the cyst fluid will flow into the abdominal cavity, irritate the peritoneum, and cause severe abdominal pain, nausea, and even shock. During the examination, signs of peritoneal irritation such as abdominal wall tension and tenderness will be found, and the original mass will shrink or disappear. After diagnosis, cesarean section should be performed immediately to remove the cyst and clean the abdominal cavity.

2. Malignant Transformation

Malignant changes of benign ovarian cysts often occur in elderly patients, especially those in menopause. The cysts increase rapidly in a short period of time, and the patient will feel bloating and loss of appetite. When the cysts are examined, the volume will increase significantly, accompanied by ascites. Suspected malignant changes require timely treatment.

3. Impact on fertility

Ovarian cysts may cause miscarriage in early pregnancy, and interrupted pregnancy may easily cause ovarian cyst pedicle torsion. If this happens in the later stage, it may cause abnormal fetal position and may block the birth canal during delivery.

4. Pedicle torsion

The late stage torsion of ovarian cysts is actually quite common and is one of the acute abdominal symptoms of infertility. It is more common in cysts with long pedicles, medium size, high mobility, but with the center of gravity biased to one side. It often occurs when the body position changes suddenly and after delivery.

5. Cancer

The enlargement of ovarian cysts can easily lead to infection, distortion, bleeding and even rupture, posing a threat to the patient's life. Some tumorous ovarian cysts may even become cancerous.
