1 in 4 people suffer from metabolic syndrome! The Beat Metabolic Syndrome Rewards Campaign has begun

According to the National Nutrition and Health Survey conducted by the National Health Administration, 1 in 4 people aged 20 to 64 suffer from metabolic syndrome. The criteria for determining whether someone has metabolic syndrome include three highs (high blood pressure, high blood sugar, and high blood lipids) plus two evils (excessive waist circumference and insufficient good cholesterol). If a person meets three of the five criteria, he or she has metabolic syndrome, and the risk of developing diabetes and cardiovascular disease in the future is 2 to 6 times that of the average person.

Director Wu Zhaojun of the National Health Administration called for changing lifestyle habits to embrace a healthy life. Since July 2012, the National Health Administration and the Central Health Insurance Administration have been working together to promote the "National Health Insurance Metabolic Syndrome Prevention and Treatment Program." In order to enhance the health awareness of the registered citizens and encourage them to actively improve their risk factors and engage in healthy behaviors, the National Health Administration is also organizing the "2024 Defeat Metabolic Syndrome" reward event. For those who have improved, a lucky draw will be held. At the same time, by sharing stories about how to practice healthy lifestyle habits and overcome metabolic syndrome, more people will be encouraged to join the ranks of healthy living.

Doctors and patients work together to improve unhealthy lifestyle habits and stay away from metabolic syndrome

Improving unhealthy lifestyle habits (smoking, unhealthy diet, lack of exercise, excessive drinking, etc.) can effectively prevent or delay the occurrence of the three high chronic diseases, promote the metabolic syndrome prevention and treatment plan, and manage people with metabolic syndrome or prediabetes through grassroots clinics. The medical team will assess their personalized chronic disease risk factors and provide professional guidance, and work with the public to discuss feasible practices and set goals to increase the success rate of public participation and disease improvement. To date, nearly 2,700 clinics and over 4,300 doctors have joined the program, with over 210,000 cases received. Nearly 100% of the people who participated in the program received guidance on improving at least one unhealthy lifestyle habit, and among those who were tracked and managed for at least three times (inclusive), more than 70% improved at least one abnormal indicator, and nearly 20% improved to a level that was no longer metabolic syndrome (i.e., the number of abnormal indicators of metabolic syndrome was less than three).

Metabolic syndrome prevention and treatment program helps you regain a healthy life

The Metabolic Syndrome Prevention and Treatment Program Clinic can assess people's unhealthy lifestyle habits that lead to metabolic syndrome and provide guidance on diet, exercise, smoking cessation, weight control, etc. Today's life is fast-paced. Ms. Wu, who is busy with work and family, accidentally found that she would be out of breath when climbing stairs. In addition, she has a family history of high blood lipids. In addition to being worried, she took the initiative to do a health check and found that there were many red words in the report. Her fasting blood sugar, triglycerides and waist circumference were exceeded. The clinic doctor recommended that she join the metabolic syndrome prevention and treatment plan. After evaluation, it was found that Ms. Wu's problem was that she often sat for a long time, did not like to exercise, and liked to eat high-fat, high-calorie foods.

To address these problems, we first taught her how to read food nutrition labels and choose low-fat, low-calorie foods and other dietary principles. The doctor and the patient jointly set goals such as eating less fatty meat, brisk walking every day, and taking a walk after meals. After a period of active implementation and changes, she stood instead of sitting at home and ate three balanced meals. After regular tracking, her fasting blood sugar and triglycerides have improved, and she no longer has metabolic syndrome. Ms. Wu said that she will continue to maintain healthy lifestyle habits to prevent metabolic syndrome from coming back again.

The only way to overcome metabolic syndrome is to adopt healthy lifestyle habits.

"2024 Defeat Metabolic Syndrome" reward campaign begins

The only way to defeat metabolic syndrome is to develop healthy lifestyle habits. To encourage people who join the metabolic syndrome prevention and treatment program to actively improve their unhealthy lifestyle habits, the National Health Administration will launch the "2024 Defeat Metabolic Syndrome" reward event from now on. As long as people who join the metabolic syndrome prevention and treatment program register on the event website before the end of September this year (113), the first 3,000 successful registrants will receive competition prizes. People who successfully register and improve any abnormal metabolic syndrome indicator will have the opportunity to win a prize. People who successfully defeat metabolic syndrome will have the opportunity to win the grand prize (AI mobile phone).
