Obesity has a cause! Polycystic Ovary Syndrome Warning Signs

Obesity is never a good thing! A 15-year-old female high school student, 158 cm tall, 100 kg in weight, with a BMI of over 40, went to the doctor because her menstruation had not come for half a year. The obstetrician and gynecologist found that she had a lot of body hair and a beard. After further examination, she was diagnosed with polycystic ovary syndrome. With medication and weight loss treatment, she lost 40 kg in weight after 2 years, and her ovulation function returned to normal, saying goodbye to the troubles of polycystic ovary syndrome.

Obstetrician and gynecologist Pan Junheng said that the ovaries are located on the left and right sides of the uterus. Every month, they release an egg cell, which is sent to the fallopian tube to combine with sperm to form a fertilized egg, starting the chapter of nurturing the next generation. If the ovaries cannot release mature egg cells normally, it will not only affect the menstrual cycle and even lead to infertility, but also multiple follicular cysts of different sizes containing eggs will appear around the ovaries, forming "polycystic ovaries", excessive secretion of male hormones, and abnormal body symptoms will follow.

Common polycystic ovary syndrome symptoms

1. Irregular menstruation. If women have delayed menstruation or irregular menstrual cycles after entering puberty, it may be caused by polycystic ovary excessive secretion of male hormones and the inability of the ovaries to ovulate regularly.

2. Abnormal uterine bleeding. The ovaries cannot ovulate normally, the menstrual period is delayed, but the endometrium continues to thicken. Once it peels off, the uterus will bleed abnormally, and the vagina will often "drip" at irregular intervals.

3. Obesity and diabetes. Polycystic ovary disease can stimulate the increase of insulin concentration in women, accelerate blood sugar secretion and synthesis into fat, induce metabolic diseases, and lead to obesity and diabetes in the long run.

4. There is excess fat on the face and neck, which makes you prone to acne or pimples, and your skin is oily and dark in color.

5. Due to the influence of the large amount of male hormones secreted, the body hair shows a polarized reaction. There will be severe hair loss, but the hair on other parts of the body, including the inner thighs, arms, abdomen and face, will increase, become thicker and darker.

6. Bad mood and depression.

Women with PCOS are prone to obesity and diabetes due to excessive secretion of male hormones and female insulin.

Detailed examination of polycystic ovary with unexplained menstrual disorder

Dr. Pan Junheng said that the above symptoms are one of the clues for preliminary diagnosis of polycystic ovary, especially irregular menstruation and obesity. Once they appear, you should be vigilant. Clinicians will further perform vaginal ultrasound to observe changes in ovarian sebum and the size of follicles; and draw blood to check the concentration of male hormones and ovulation-stimulating hormone. If they are significantly increased, it means that the risk of polycystic ovary is high.

The cause of polycystic ovary syndrome is still unknown. Currently, medicine generally believes that it is caused by multiple genetic errors. There are also suggestions that there may be a family history. Studies have found that if one of the twin sisters suffers from polycystic ovary syndrome, the other has a 50% chance of suffering from the same disease.

Preventing polycystic ovary syndrome and controlling weight loss are meaningful

Dr. Pan Junheng said that the current treatment method for polycystic ovary, in addition to the use of progesterone, pituitary blockers, ovulation injections and other drugs, and when necessary, diabetes medication, the simplest and most meaningful method is weight loss. Clinically, it has been found that good weight control can normalize the ovarian ovulation function, thereby improving polycystic ovary symptoms such as irregular menstruation, increased body hair, and obesity.

From this we can see that if women want to avoid a series of gynecological diseases brought about by polycystic ovary, they should pay attention to changes in their weight, develop regular living and exercise habits, maintain a balanced diet, and eat at regular times and in regular amounts to avoid being overweight.
