Men eat more tomatoes in the morning to improve absorption efficiency

[Key Points]: New research has found that eating tomatoes in the morning can make the antioxidant lycopene in them play a better antioxidant function, and lycopene is most efficiently absorbed in the morning.

Survey: Eating tomatoes in the morning absorbs the most lycopene

Current studies have shown that the digestion, absorption and metabolism of nutrients in the human body fluctuate with time of day, and there are differences in the absorption rate of the same nutrients in different time zones. Therefore, it is most beneficial to take nutrients at a time when they are most easily absorbed. Therefore, Japan's KAGOME company launched an investigation into the time and absorption rate of lycopene, which is rich in tomatoes, in the body.

The investigation divided the experimental mice into morning group, noon group and evening group. Each group of mice was fed 6 grams of feed mixed with freeze-dried tomato powder. After four weeks of continuous feeding, the changes in the concentration of lycopene in the mice's blood were recorded and investigated.

The results showed that after consuming a tomato-containing feed, the mice in the morning group had higher lycopene levels in their blood 3 hours later than those in the noon and evening groups. In addition, the conclusion drawn from calculating the lycopene absorption index - the area under the blood concentration curve (AUC) also shows that eating tomatoes in the morning has the highest value and the most lycopene is absorbed.

Therefore, researchers at KAGOME believe that eating tomatoes in the morning can promote the absorption efficiency of lycopene in the body better than eating them at noon or in the evening, and the absorption amount is also increased. Lycopene is effective in inhibiting the production of melanin and the reduction of collagen. Therefore, tomatoes have become a great helper for women in beauty and skin care.

Eating tomatoes can help improve fertility in men

In addition to being effective in treating women's beauty problems such as freckle removal and skin whitening, lycopene also has a good effect on promoting and protecting men's reproductive function.

British scientists have discovered that lycopene, which makes tomato soup red, may be able to strengthen sperm in men into super sperm. Scientists have therefore inferred that men can greatly enhance their fertility by drinking a bowl of tomato soup every day.

Five urologists from the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Sciences at the University of Portsmouth in the UK randomly selected strong men with an average age of around 42 years old and asked them to drink a bowl of tomato soup every day for two weeks. During this period, their semen samples were collected. The results showed that the level of lycopene in semen, which can eliminate harmful chemical free radicals that cause male infertility, increased significantly, with an increase of between 7% and 12%. Therefore, it is very necessary to eat more tomatoes on a daily basis.

Drinking tomato juice before exercise can help fight fatigue

In previous studies, researchers have found that tomatoes contain the antioxidant lycopene as well as a variety of nutrients such as vitamins, minerals and organic acids that can reduce fatigue. In order to find out the specific role of tomato juice in fighting fatigue, Kagome, a well-known Japanese food company, and Suzuka Medical University formed a joint research team to investigate the impact of tomato juice on fatigue biomarkers in the blood and the effective intake time.

In the experiment, the researchers asked one group of mice to drink tomato juice one hour before exercise, another group of mice to drink tomato juice after running on the equipment for one hour, and another group of mice to drink tomato juice after exercising for 30 minutes, resting for one hour and then continuing to run for 30 minutes.

Six hours after exercise, the researchers tested the concentration of fatigue biomarker cytokine "TGF-b" in the blood of the experimental mice and found that this indicator was reduced by 50% to 60% in the experimental mice that drank tomato juice before and during exercise compared with the experimental mice that drank water, while there was almost no change in the experimental mice that drank tomato juice after exercise.
