Healthy and slim without fat accumulation! How to Eat Phytonutrients

Eating too much oil and too much food will not only make you fat, but it is also likely to cause cardiovascular disease. Doctors point out that the westernized diet makes modern people consume too many calories every day. When symptoms of obesity appear, they have become a high-risk group for arteriosclerosis, which can seriously lead to myocardial infarction and death. It is recommended to start with eating habits and eat more five-color fruits and vegetables rich in phytonutrients. In addition to helping with weight control, it also helps prevent cardiovascular disease! (Video/Photographer Huang Zhiwen)

Eat less high-oil, high-salt, and high-fat foods, eat more colorful fruits and vegetables every day, and supplement with phytonutrients. You can lose weight healthily without accumulating fat and reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease.

Take phytonutrients to keep away arteriosclerosis

Dr. Chundian Tseng, chief physician of the Department of Cardiology at National Taiwan University Hospital, said that obesity is a very common problem in Taiwan, and people with moderate or even severe obesity are at high risk of developing cardiovascular disease. For example, arteriosclerosis, one of the main causes of heart disease in adults, causes myocardial infarction and is often among the top three causes of death in Taiwan. Globally, it often ranks first.

Dr. Zeng Chundian explained that when studying arteriosclerosis caused by obesity, the main factor is that eating too much oil causes the fat in the blood to be metabolized too slowly and difficult to excrete. In order to avoid obesity, we should start with our eating habits. For example, we should avoid eating fatty, fried, and high-salt foods often. We should consume more five-color fruits and vegetables rich in phytonutrients. In addition to helping with weight control, it also helps prevent cardiovascular diseases.

Dr. Zeng Chundian added that polyphenol compounds in phytonutrients are very helpful to human health. Beverages rich in polyphenols, such as tea, can prevent tumors and coronary heart disease. In addition, their antioxidant ability can also prevent free radicals from attacking normal cells and causing chronic inflammation in the body.

Phytonutrients have a way to boost metabolism

Professor Zhang Suqiong, Secretary General of the Taiwan Health Food Association, also mentioned that phytonutrients are rich in five colors of vegetables, fruits, grains, beans, nuts, and tea leaves, including red, orange, green, blue-purple, and white. They have multiple physiological functions, such as anti-oxidation to prevent the formation of free radicals, regulating gene expression to increase immunity, and bringing stimulant-like effects to the body to keep people in a good mood.

In recent years, studies have also pointed out that phytonutrients can lower blood sugar and blood lipids, promote body metabolism, and prevent fat from accumulating on blood vessel walls and causing blood vessel blockages. Professor Zhang Suqiong mentioned that, for example, garlic, ginger, and onions can effectively lower blood cholesterol, inhibit platelet aggregation, and reduce thrombosis.

Professor Zhang Suqiong shared that getting more phytonutrients from natural foods is extremely beneficial to health. She must eat fruit for breakfast every day, and cut apples, papayas or kiwis into about a bowl of size. If she eats out for lunch, a plate of blanched vegetables is not enough, so she may add some kelp, braised cabbage, etc. Dinner is a good time to check whether she has eaten colorful fruits and vegetables throughout the day. She can cook a pot of vegetable soup with onions, carrots, and cabbage, which is healthy and slimming.
