The number of people with eating disorders in the UK has increased by 16%

Recently, British artist Lady Gaga was reported to have gained a lot of weight on the concert stage, causing people from all walks of life to wonder whether she was pregnant. A few days later, Gaga admitted on her official website that she had suffered from eating disorders and often suffered from binge eating. There have been more and more cases of eating disorders in recent years. In the UK, the number of cases of eating disorders has increased by 16% in the past year, and it is estimated that 1.6 million people in the UK suffer from eating disorders.

According to statistics from the Health and Social Care Information Centre (HSCIC) cited by the BBC, there were 2,290 consultations for eating disorders from June 2011 to June this year, an increase of 16% over the previous year. Experts from relevant departments pointed out that this is likely just the tip of the iceberg. It is estimated that about 1.6 million people in the UK suffer from eating disorders.

Among those seeking treatment, 91% were women, three-quarters of whom suffered from anorexia nervosa, and the majority were adolescents aged 10 to 19. HSCIC CEO Tim Straughan said the figures may seem small but there is an increasing trend. This shows that modern people's psychology is affected by stress and environment, which seriously affects their health. People who go to the hospital for treatment are usually in very serious conditions. If they can receive early treatment to improve their psychological problems, it will help reduce this situation.
