Regular health check-ups should not be ignored In response to the increasing number of vegetarians, the Food and Drug Administration of the Department of Health launched a new version of the dietary guidelines last year, which also made recommendations to vegetarians that whole grains should account for one-third of their daily staple food intake. At the same time, although sunflower oil, salad oil, and olive oil are unsaturated fatty acids, they are easily oxidized at high temperatures. Therefore, it is best not to use them for frying. It is best to change the oil frequently according to the preparation method. Wang Zongdao also said that long-term vegan diet may lead to vitamin B12 deficiency, and vitamin supplements are needed in time. The Department of Health's vegetarian dietary guidelines recommend that algae such as kelp, wakame, and nori, as well as mushrooms such as shiitake mushrooms, pleurotus eryngii, and coral mushrooms are rich in vitamin B12 and can be obtained more from these vegetables. However, Wang Zongdao also reminded that regular health checks should not be neglected after becoming a vegetarian, especially since many people think that they can be "insulated" from cardiovascular diseases after becoming a vegetarian. Some even take regular medications and believe that their three highs will definitely improve after becoming a vegetarian. They worry that long-term medication will harm their health, and they reduce or stop taking medications on their own. These are all wrong concepts, and may also worsen the condition because the three highs are not properly controlled. Wang Zongdao emphasized that regular health checks are very important. He recommended that people with cardiovascular disease should have blood drawn every 3 to 6 months, while the general public can have the test once every 1 to 3 years to understand the actual conditions of blood pressure, blood lipids, blood sugar, etc. If the condition has improved, the medication can be adjusted appropriately. Wang Zongdao also emphasized that in order to stay away from cardiovascular diseases, adjusting the diet by becoming a vegetarian is only one part of the equation, and being a vegetarian should not be considered a panacea. Other important factors in maintaining cardiovascular health include regular health checks, maintaining an ideal weight, developing exercise habits, exercising at least three times a week, and addicts must quit smoking. None of them can be ignored. Eat a spoonful of nuts every day Compared with those in other countries, vegetarians in China eat less nuts. It is recommended that you take in unsaturated fatty acids by eating one serving (about 1 spoon) of walnuts, cashews, almonds, peanuts and other nuts every day. However, Taipei Tzu Chi Hospital nutritionist Zhang Yalin reminds us that it is important to note that nuts are still oily foods, so one needs to reduce the amount of cooking oil before consuming nuts. Excessive oil intake will also lead to problems with high blood lipids or weight gain. For more exciting content, please see "Changchun Monthly" |
