The Executive Yuan issued a statement on "Strengthening Measures for Meat Inspection" on the evening of the 12th, stating that in order to ensure that "Taiwanese pork" can be consumed with peace of mind by the public, the use of ractopamine will be strictly controlled from the source to the market. The Swine Farmers Association of the Republic of China expressed its support for the government's efforts to catch the criminals, but also believed that the government did not first promote the benefits of Taiwanese pork, but only announced control measures with an iron fist, which may have blurred the focus of the outside world's opposition to the presence of ractopamine in American beef.

The Executive Yuan announced that it would strengthen control over the use of ractopamine in pig farms and commercially available pork.

Yang Guanzhang, chairman of the Swine Farmers Association of the Republic of China, said that when pig farmers took to the streets on the 8th to protest against the liberalization of ractopamine, they had asked the government to strictly inspect the use of ractopamine. Therefore, he believes that this measure is a response to the requirements of the Swine Farmers Association. If the black sheep who steal and use ractopamine can be caught, it will actually be a good thing for the vast majority of kind-hearted pig farmers.

The Executive Yuan announced that starting from the 14th, pig farms must provide a certification that the pigs on the market have not been fed with clenbuterol, and the meat market will announce whether the pig farms have provided the certification. Yang Guanzhang believes that for law-abiding pig farmers, these regulatory measures are not a problem and they are willing to cooperate.

However, the Pork Association has complaints about the Executive Yuan's handling of the matter. Yang Guanzhang said that the rate of ractopamine detected in pig farms or pork products over the years is less than 2%, and this year it is even lower. The government's decision to strengthen inspections is commendable, but when the public is questioning the use of ractopamine beef, the government did not promote the benefits of domestic pigs as a head of the family, but only announced stricter source control and market inspections. He said, "Wouldn't it make consumers lose confidence and think that even pork cannot be eaten? It also blurred the focus of opposing ractopamine in American beef."

Chen Manli, chairman of the Housewives Alliance Environmental Protection Foundation, believes that clenbuterol is still a banned drug in China. The fact that more and more meat products are now found to contain clenbuterol indicates that the previous control measures are completely ineffective. She criticized the government: "It has closed its eyes for a long time!"

Chen Manli does not think that the government is using this to divert attention from the issue of American beef, but she also said that the government needs to review which link is too loose and someone must be held accountable for this.
