What causes pelvic inflammatory disease in women?

What causes female pelvic inflammatory disease? This is a question that many female patients are very confused about. Pelvic inflammatory disease refers to the inflammation of the female pelvic reproductive organs, the connective tissue around the uterus and the pelvic peritoneum. Pelvic inflammatory disease is divided into chronic pelvic inflammatory disease and acute pelvic inflammatory disease. Chronic pelvic inflammatory disease is often caused by incomplete treatment of the acute phase. Because of its long onset and stubborn condition, bacteria in the vulva can retrogradely infect and reach the pelvic cavity through the uterus and fallopian tubes.

But in real life, not all women will suffer from pelvic inflammatory disease, only a few will. This is because the female reproductive system has a natural defense function, which can resist the invasion of bacteria under normal circumstances. Only when the body's resistance is reduced or the natural defense function of women is damaged due to other reasons, will pelvic inflammatory disease occur.

Experts say that there are many causes of female pelvic inflammatory disease, but female pelvic inflammatory disease is mainly caused by infection after childbirth or abortion, infection after intrauterine surgery, and poor menstrual hygiene. Direct spread of inflammation from adjacent organs can also cause pelvic inflammatory disease. Common ones are appendicitis and peritonitis. Because they are adjacent to the female internal reproductive organs, inflammation can spread directly and cause pelvic inflammation. When suffering from chronic cervicitis, inflammation can also cause pelvic connective tissue inflammation through lymphatic circulation.

It can be seen that female pelvic inflammatory disease is mostly caused by infection or lack of hygiene. For female friends, they should pay special attention to the above reasons and take preventive measures against pelvic inflammatory disease. If they have symptoms such as abdominal pain, fever, increased menstrual flow, and abdominal distension, they must go to the hospital in time to check the cause and seek early treatment.
