What are the complications of partial hydatidiform mole?

What complications may result from partial hydatidiform mole?

1. Heavy bleeding

If a molar pregnancy is not diagnosed and treated promptly, there may be repeated bleeding, intrauterine blood accumulation, and blood loss. Heavy bleeding may also occur during spontaneous expulsion. On top of anemia, hemorrhagic shock and even death may occur. Molar pregnancy should be treated urgently. Short-term delays may result in more blood loss and harm to the patient.

2. Incomplete abortion of hydatidiform mole

After spontaneous abortion or vacuum abortion, there may be residual vesicular fetal masses. Patients with hydatidiform mole who had spontaneous abortion not long before admission should undergo uterine curettage immediately if they can withstand it. If there are signs of infection, antibiotics should be used for a few days before uterine curettage.

3. Hydatidiform mole embolism

The vesicular mass can be transferred or migrated with the blood to other parts of the body, the most common being the lungs and vagina, and can form a local hemorrhage furnace. A small amount of embolism or without strict examination may disappear. Yu Peiliang reported that oxytocin caused extensive pulmonary metastasis of hydatidiform mole, pulmonary artery contracture syndrome, death from pulmonary edema, heart failure, and hydatidiform mole embolism, which may be different from the metastasis of malignant tumors and may disappear. Lin and Su Yingkuan reported that chemotherapy was still found.

4. Malignant Transformation

It becomes invasive hydatidiform mole or choriocarcinoma, with a malignant transformation rate of about 10% to 20%.

5. Torsion of ovarian luteinized cyst pedicle

It often occurs after the hydatidiform mole is expelled. When pedicle torsion occurs, the uterine appendages should be twisted immediately.
