How long does it take to detect intrauterine and ectopic pregnancies?

1. If a woman with a normal menstrual cycle is pregnant for 5-6 weeks, ultrasound can be used to observe the gestational sac in the uterus to determine whether it is an intrauterine pregnancy or an ectopic pregnancy.

2. After sexual intercourse, if the male sperm and the female egg combine to form a fertilized egg and successfully implant in the uterus, usually within 10-15 days after sexual intercourse, the pregnancy can be initially confirmed through urine pregnancy test strips and blood HCG test. About 20 days after sexual intercourse, the gestational sac can be observed through vaginal ultrasound examination, which is generally 5 weeks of pregnancy. After waiting for about 1 week, the gestational sac can be observed through abdominal ultrasound examination. Only when the gestational sac is observed can it be confirmed whether it is an intrauterine pregnancy or an ectopic pregnancy.

3. If it is an intrauterine pregnancy, a round or oval gestational sac can be found in the uterine cavity. For ectopic pregnancy, the ectopic pregnancy mass may not be found in the early stage, but around 50 days of pregnancy, the gestational sac can be found outside the uterine cavity such as the bilateral fallopian tubes or adnexa.
