Ovarian cyst malignancy risk

Ovarian cyst malignancy risk

The chance of ovarian cysts becoming malignant is related to many factors, and not all ovarian cysts have the same chance of becoming malignant. Among them, physiological ovarian cysts generally disappear naturally and are unlikely to become malignant, while heterogeneous or solid ovarian cysts and larger ovarian cysts have a relatively higher chance of becoming malignant. The specific analysis is as follows:

1. Situations where the chance of ovarian cysts becoming malignant is low: Some women are found to have relatively small ovarian cysts, such as a diameter of less than 5 cm, with thin, smooth cyst walls and no papillae. The patients do not have ascites, and the ovarian cysts grow relatively slowly, so the chance of malignancy is relatively low.

2. Situations where the chance of ovarian cyst malignancy is relatively high: Some ovarian cysts grow relatively fast or are relatively large, even with a diameter greater than 10 cm, or have uneven internal echoes, accompanied by solid echoes and rough cyst walls, and protruding nipples. Especially in postmenopausal women, ovarian cysts are found to have rich blood flow signals, accompanied by symptoms of bloody ascites, and tumor markers are relatively high. Relatively speaking, the chance of malignancy is relatively high.

Therefore, when an ovarian cyst is detected, it is necessary to comprehensively judge the nature of the tumor and the chance of malignancy based on the patient's physical condition and the detailed description of the specific imaging report, CT or MRI examination, and the results of tumor markers and other examinations.
