High chorionic gonadotropin after abortion

High levels of human chorionic gonadotropin after an abortion may be a normal phenomenon, or it may be caused by incomplete abortion, trophoblastic disease, etc. It is recommended to seek medical attention and receive targeted treatment based on the cause.

1. Normal phenomenon: After an abortion, the level of human chorionic gonadotropin does not return to normal so quickly in a short period of time. Therefore, it is generally normal for the level of human chorionic gonadotropin to be high in a short period of time.

2. Incomplete abortion: The embryonic tissue in the uterine cavity may not be completely cleaned out during the abortion operation, which leads to a high level of chorionic gonadotropin. If an ultrasound examination confirms that the abortion is incomplete, another uterine curettage can be performed to clean the fetal membrane tissue, and the chorionic gonadotropin level can gradually return to normal.

3. Trophoblastic disease: If B-ultrasound examination confirms that there is no embryo residual in the uterine cavity, and the level of chorionic gonadotropin remains high and does not decrease, it may be caused by choriocarcinoma. In this case, chemotherapy treatment with drugs such as methotrexate, actinomycin, and 5-fluorouracil can be given according to the condition.
