Will chronic cervicitis lead to infertility? Chronic cervicitis is the most common gynecological disease. It is often seen in childbirth, abortion or surgical damage to the cervix, and pathogens invade and cause infection, and it is transformed from acute cervicitis. Many women have less obvious symptoms of acute cervicitis, which are often ignored and directly develop chronic cervicitis. About 20%~25% of patients with excessive vaginal discharge are caused by cervicitis. If the leucorrhea caused by inflammation is sticky and purulent, it will be detrimental to the passage of sperm through the cervical canal, thus leading to infertility.

Cervical mycoplasma infection can cause increased cervical secretions, change the pH value of cervical mucus, affect the passage of sperm through the cervix, damage the reproductive tract mucosa, and cause immune cells to come into contact with sperm to produce anti-sperm antibodies, leading to infertility.

In addition, cervical chlamydia and mycoplasma infection can cause endometritis, salpingitis and pelvic inflammatory disease, resulting in inflammation that destroys the fallopian tube mucosa, causing fallopian tube adhesions or blockages, and leading to tubal infertility.

Cervical polyps can block the cervical opening and affect the passage of sperm.

Chronic cervicitis can cause female infertility. Therefore, after discovering that you have chronic cervicitis, patients should take the following measures for treatment as soon as possible:

Physical therapy

(1) Electric ironing: This method is relatively simple.

(2) Cryotherapy uses refrigerants to quickly produce ultra-low temperatures, causing the inflamed tissue to freeze, necrotize, degenerate and fall off. The wound surface is then repaired by the tissue to achieve the purpose of curing the disease.

(5) Bohm lamp therapy Bohm lamp therapy is a new device for treating cervicitis. Antibiotics are used for 10 days after surgery, bathing is prohibited for 2 weeks, and sexual intercourse is prohibited for 1 month. A follow-up examination is conducted 1 to 2 months after surgery.

(6) Infrared coagulation is a method of using infrared radiation to cause local tissue to coagulate, necrotize, and fall off, forming a non-inflammatory superficial ulcer. Granulation tissue grows and is eventually covered by new squamous epithelium and heals. This method has few side effects, less vaginal discharge after surgery, and a thin crust that falls off quickly.

Drug treatment

(1) Vaginal irrigation can be performed with 1:5000 potassium permanganate solution before applying the medicine.

(2) Topical medication

① After vaginal washing, 10% to 20% silver nitrate can be applied to the local area with a cotton swab, once a week, 2 to 4 times per course of treatment, and then gently wipe the local area with a cotton ball of physiological saline. This method is simple and suitable for grassroots units.

② Potassium dichromate solution: This drug has the effect of sterilization and swelling reduction. This method is simple, the drug solution is easy to prepare, the dosage is small, the side effects are few, and it is easy to carry. It is suitable for grassroots units or after the census.

③Dilosulin (Albotherapy) suppository: After washing the vulva every other night, insert 1 suppository deep into the vagina. A total of 12 times of medication is a course of treatment. After the medication is completed, check again after menstruation.

Immunotherapy

Chronic cervicitis is a serious disease. In addition to seeking prompt treatment, patients should also pay attention to the following matters in their personal lives:

Two or three days after the treatment of chronic cervicitis, there will be more bloody or yellow watery secretions discharged from the vagina. Therefore, cotton sanitary pads can be used during the day, and new pads need to be replaced frequently. You can also wash the vulva with warm water, once in the morning and once in the evening.

It is best to wear cotton underwear and change it frequently to keep the vulva clean.

Sexual intercourse should be avoided for 1-2 months, because after the treatment of the cervix, there will be a layer of inflamed scab on the surface that will fall off and new tissue will slowly grow out. During the tissue repair process, if sexual intercourse is performed, the new wound on the cervix will be worn away or even bleed, affecting the efficacy.
