Can postpartum hyperprolactinemia be cured?

Can postpartum hyperprolactinemia be cured?

Hyperprolactinemia occurs when the prolactin level in the body rises to 25 nanograms per milliliter of blood after childbirth. The external manifestation at this time is that the mother's nipples overflow with milk for a long time. This disease is caused by the combined action of multiple internal and external factors. This problem may be related to excessive breast massage after childbirth. For example, some mothers originally have less milk after childbirth, but after breast massage, the milk becomes more, which also causes this disease.

Some women who have hypoglycemia after childbirth are also prone to this disease. In addition, uncontrolled sexual life after childbirth can lead to this disease. Postpartum prolactinemia can be treated with dopamine receptor agonists. This substance has the function of inhibiting the synthesis and release of prolactin. Moreover, after using this drug, the secretion function of the human pituitary gland will also be inhibited in different ways. It can also be treated by ovulation induction.

Some postpartum hyperprolactinemia may be caused by compression of the gland due to tumors. For such cases, surgery is required. Some anti-tumor drugs can also be used in conjunction with surgery. In addition, if surgery or drug treatment is ineffective, radiation irradiation can be used for treatment.

The typical manifestation of hyperprolactinemia is milk leakage, and the leaked milk is different from normal milk, showing watery milk or serous milk. Some people may have this disease after artificial abortion or external reasons leading to stillbirth.

It should be noted that some pregnant women may have hypothalamic pituitary lesions or renal dysfunction, which can also cause this disease. After hyperprolactinemia occurs, a comprehensive physical examination is required to see if it is caused by certain diseases.
