Diagnosis of Bartholinitis

Diagnosis of Bartholinitis

The Bartholin's glands are located below the labia majora on both sides. So, what are the symptoms of Bartholin's gland inflammation? How to diagnose it? Experts say that once the Bartholin's glands are inflamed, the most direct symptoms are swelling and pain. It is not difficult to diagnose Bartholin's gland inflammation. The key is to find and treat it in time. The following is an expert's introduction to the symptoms and diagnosis of Bartholin's gland inflammation. I hope it will be helpful to everyone.

Bartholinitis symptoms and diagnosis

1. Symptoms of Bartholinitis

At first, a red, swollen, hard lump is found in the 1/3 of the labia majora, which causes a burning sensation, obvious tenderness, urination pain, difficulty walking, and sometimes urination and defecation difficulties. It is mostly unilateral and can occasionally be bilateral. After that, the skin on the surface of the lump becomes thinner and the surrounding tissue edema with a sense of fluctuation, and then develops into an abscess. In severe cases, there may be systemic symptoms such as fever and headache. If not treated, the abscess may rupture on its own, and the pus will flow out, and then the local pain will be relieved, the congestion and edema will be reduced, and the systemic symptoms will disappear.

2. Diagnosis of Bartholinitis

Based on the medical history, local appearance and digital examination, it is generally not difficult to diagnose. However, attention should also be paid to whether there are any abnormalities in the urethral opening and paraurethral glands. Due to severe pain, vaginal speculum examination is no longer possible. If it is not necessary, it can be temporarily suspended. Generally, secretions should be taken from the opening of the Bartholin's glands, the urethral opening, and the paraurethral glands for smear examination of pathogens. After the acute phase of Bartholinitis, due to the obstruction of the glandular duct opening, the glandular secretion fluid cannot be discharged and is retained, forming a Bartholin's gland cyst.

Warm reminder: The above is the expert’s introduction to the “symptoms and diagnosis of Bartholinitis”. If you suffer from Bartholinitis, you must seek timely treatment.
