What are the reasons for irregular menstruation in women after childbirth?

Menstrual irregularities are mainly manifested as abnormalities in the menstrual cycle and menstrual volume. The disease affects a wide range of women, and pregnant women often experience symptoms of menstrual irregularities after cesarean section. The main reasons are as follows.

1. Endocrine disorders

Women are in a stage of endocrine disorders in the early postpartum period, and the first menstruation after delivery is usually an anovulatory cycle. At this time, the ovaries are not very sensitive to the stimulation of gonadal hormones, so postpartum lochia or irregular vaginal bleeding often occurs.

2. Birth injury factors

Cesarean section causes certain damage to the mother's body. If a woman experiences heavy bleeding accompanied by shock, postpartum infection or disseminated intravascular coagulation after delivery, these can lead to amenorrhea. If it cannot be effectively controlled in the short term, it may also affect the normal function of the thyroid gland and cause symptoms such as weight loss, indigestion, chills, fatigue, and low basal metabolism.

3. Breastfeeding

Women who insist on breastfeeding after childbirth are more likely to have irregular menstruation, because breastfeeding increases prolactin in the body and inhibits the ovulation function of the ovaries, so menstruation cannot come as expected, resulting in amenorrhea or scanty menstruation, etc. Some women also suffer from endometrial atrophy amenorrhea due to prolonged breastfeeding.

4. Mental factors

First-time mothers have low psychological endurance and are prone to negative emotions such as anxiety, depression, and tension. They may even be unable to accept the transition to a new identity after giving birth and suffer from postpartum depression. These negative emotions can also affect the normal onset of menstruation.
