The harm of pelvic inflammatory disease to female fertility

For female friends, pelvic inflammatory disease is not unfamiliar at all. It is a disease with a high incidence rate nowadays. If pelvic inflammatory disease occurs, female friends’ own physical health and normal life may be seriously affected. Moreover, if not treated in time, it may also affect women’s fertility and affect women’s pregnancy. Regarding this issue, let us learn about it together.

When acute inflammation is not completely treated, it can turn into a chronic disease. However, it is more likely to become chronic due to the slow onset and mild condition that does not attract attention. Therefore, it is not treated in time and becomes chronic. This type of pelvic inflammatory disease often causes infertility in women. In addition, long-term delay has the following hazards:

Pelvic inflammatory disease is prone to recurrence

Due to the destruction of the fallopian tube tissue structure caused by pelvic inflammatory disease, if the patient is still under the same high-risk factors, it may cause pelvic inflammatory disease reinfection and lead to repeated attacks. Clinical studies have found that about 25% of people with a history of pelvic inflammatory disease will have another attack.

It is easy to turn into chronic pelvic pain. About 20% of acute pelvic inflammatory disease will leave chronic pelvic pain. Chronic pelvic pain often occurs 4-8 weeks after the acute pelvic inflammatory disease. When pelvic inflammatory disease occurs once, the rate of chronic pelvic pain is 12%, and when it occurs more than 3 times, the chance of suffering from chronic pelvic pain increases to 67%.

Pelvic inflammatory disease can easily lead to ectopic pregnancy

According to statistics, the incidence of ectopic pregnancy after pelvic inflammatory disease is 8-10 times higher than that of normal women. The incidence of ectopic pregnancy is also related to the number of pelvic inflammatory disease attacks. Relevant studies have shown that the incidence of ectopic pregnancy during the first attack of pelvic inflammatory disease is 6%, the second attack is 12%, and the third attack is 22%. Therefore, patients with pelvic inflammatory disease must be treated as soon as possible.
