Causes of menstrual disorders after abortion

After artificial abortion, the ovaries can generally resume ovulation within 20 days, and menstruation will start in about one month. However, some patients experience menstrual disorders such as increased menstrual flow, shortened or prolonged menstrual cycles, prolonged menstrual duration, and amenorrhea within 3 to 6 months after artificial abortion.

Causes of menstrual disorders after abortion:

Menstruation is the result of the interaction between the cerebral cortex, hypothalamus, pituitary gland, ovaries and endometrium. When a person is under excessive tension, fear, sadness, overwork, or undergoing surgery, the neuroendocrine system can be used to simulate the functions of the hypothalamus, pituitary gland, ovaries, and uterus, resulting in normal menstruation.

After artificial abortion, the chorionic gonadotropin disappears suddenly, making the ovaries unable to respond to the gonadotropin secreted by the anterior pituitary gland in a short period of time, thus causing irregular menstruation.

During the process of artificial abortion, excessive suction and curettage of the uterus will damage the basal layer of the endometrium with regenerative capacity, making the endometrium unable to regenerate and causing the patient to suffer from long-term amenorrhea.

Most menstrual disorders after abortion can recover naturally, and a few persistent abnormalities can be treated as menstrual dysfunction.
