Classification and symptoms of cervicitis

Classification and symptoms of cervicitis

Cervicitis is a common disease among women of childbearing age. Cervicitis can be classified into acute cervicitis and chronic cervicitis. Chronic cervicitis is often caused by pathogens invading the cervix after childbirth, abortion or surgery. Improper or incomplete treatment of acute cervicitis may lead to chronic cervicitis. The following is a detailed introduction to the symptoms of acute cervicitis and chronic cervicitis.

Acute cervicitis: Acute cervicitis is mainly caused by sexually transmitted pathogens, or complicated by infectious abortion, puerperal infection, cervical injury or vaginal foreign bodies. The clinical manifestations of acute cervicitis are: increased vaginal discharge, mucopurulent, vulvar itching and burning sensation, accompanied by backache and lower abdominal pain, intermenstrual bleeding, post-coital bleeding, etc. In addition, there are often lower urinary tract symptoms, such as urinary urgency, frequent urination, urinary pain, etc., which make women suffer unspeakable pain.

Chronic cervicitis: Chronic cervicitis is the most common type of inflammation of the female reproductive organs, with a high incidence rate, accounting for more than half of married women. The main manifestations of chronic cervicitis are: the cervix has varying degrees of erosion, hypertrophy, congestion, and edema, sometimes hard, sometimes polyps, lacerations, and cervical gland cysts; increased vaginal secretions, which are milky white mucous, sometimes light yellow purulent, accompanied by bloody leucorrhea or bleeding after sexual intercourse. When the inflammation involves the connective tissue under the bladder, urinary urgency, urinary pain, and frequent urination may occur. If the inflammation spreads to the pelvic cavity along the uterosacral ligament, there may be lumbar pain, lower abdominal pain, etc. The viscous purulent secretions of the cervix are not conducive to sperm penetration and can cause infertility. Some chronic cervicitis may have no history of acute cervicitis. This situation is mainly caused by poor hygiene, or estrogen deficiency, and poor local anti-infection ability.
