Vulvar itching, leucorrhea, abnormal odor

Vulvar itching, abnormal vaginal discharge, and odor may be caused by a variety of reasons, including infection, hormonal changes, or poor hygiene habits. Treatment includes medication, improving lifestyle habits, and seeing a doctor when necessary.

1. Infection

Vulvar itching, abnormal vaginal discharge and odor are common in bacterial vaginitis, candidal vaginitis or trichomonas vaginitis. Bacterial vaginitis is usually caused by an imbalance of vaginal flora, which manifests as increased vaginal discharge and a noticeable odor. Candidal vaginitis is mostly caused by Candida albicans infection, with severe vulvar itching and vaginal discharge that is like tofu dregs. Trichomonas vaginitis is transmitted through sex, and the vaginal discharge is yellow-green foamy and accompanied by a peculiar smell.

treat:

-Bacterial vaginosis: oral metronidazole or topical clindamycin ointment.

- Vaginal candidiasis: Use clotrimazole suppositories or fluconazole orally.

- Trichomonas vaginitis: Oral metronidazole or tinidazole, and sexual partners should be treated at the same time.

2. Hormone changes

Pregnancy, menopause or changes in the menstrual cycle may cause changes in the vaginal environment, leading to vulvar itching and abnormal vaginal discharge. Decreased estrogen levels can cause the vaginal mucosa to become thinner, secretions to decrease, and susceptibility to infection.

treat:

-Use estrogen creams or vaginal suppositories to improve mucosal health.

-Keep the vulva clean and avoid using irritating lotions.

-Increase the intake of foods rich in phytoestrogens, such as soy products.

3. Hygiene habits

Poor hygiene habits, such as over-cleaning, using sanitary products with fragrances, or wearing underwear that does not breathe well, can irritate the vulvar skin, causing itching and odor.

treat:

- Choose cotton underwear and avoid tight clothing.

- Use mild water to clean the vulva and avoid frequent use of lotions.

-Change sanitary napkins or panty liners regularly to keep the vulva dry.

4. Other diseases

Diabetes, immune system diseases or skin diseases may also cause vulvar itching and abnormal vaginal discharge. Diabetic patients are prone to yeast infections when their blood sugar is not well controlled. Immune system diseases such as lupus erythematosus may affect vaginal health.

treat:

-Control blood sugar levels and monitor them regularly.

-For immune system diseases, immunomodulatory drugs should be used under the guidance of a doctor.

- Skin diseases such as eczema or psoriasis require the use of anti-inflammatory creams.

Vulvar itching, abnormal vaginal discharge and odor are common gynecological problems. It is crucial to identify the cause in a timely manner and take targeted treatment. If the symptoms persist or worsen, it is recommended to see a doctor as soon as possible to avoid delaying the condition.
