What are the symptoms of abnormal leucorrhea

Abnormal leucorrhea may be a symptom of a variety of gynecological diseases. Common causes include infection, changes in hormone levels or gynecological inflammation, and require treatment based on the specific situation.

1. Infection

The most common cause of abnormal vaginal discharge is bacterial, fungal or parasitic infection. Bacterial vaginitis, candidal vaginitis and trichomoniasis are three common types of infection. Bacterial vaginitis usually presents as grayish white vaginal discharge with a fishy smell; candidal vaginitis is accompanied by white tofu-like vaginal discharge and itching; trichomoniasis vaginal discharge is yellow-green with foam and odor. In terms of treatment, bacterial vaginitis can be treated with metronidazole or clindamycin; candidal vaginitis is often treated with fluconazole or clotrimazole; trichomoniasis requires oral metronidazole or tinidazole.

2. Changes in hormone levels

During a woman's menstrual cycle, pregnancy or menopause, hormone level fluctuations may cause abnormal vaginal discharge. For example, during ovulation, it is normal for vaginal discharge to increase and become transparent and stringy, but if the vaginal discharge is abnormal in color or accompanied by a strange smell, you need to be alert. During pregnancy, increased estrogen levels may cause increased vaginal discharge, but if yellow-green or bloody vaginal discharge occurs, you need to seek medical attention in time. Due to the decrease in estrogen in menopausal women, vaginal discharge may decrease or become dry, and hormone replacement therapy can be used to relieve symptoms.

3. Gynecological inflammation

Gynecological inflammations such as cervicitis and pelvic inflammatory disease may also cause abnormal vaginal discharge. Cervicitis is often manifested by increased vaginal discharge, yellowing or blood streaking, and may be accompanied by lower abdominal pain; pelvic inflammatory disease is accompanied by increased vaginal discharge, lower abdominal pain and fever. In terms of treatment, antibiotics such as azithromycin or doxycycline can be used for cervicitis; pelvic inflammatory disease requires the combined use of antibiotics, such as ceftriaxone plus doxycycline, and hospitalization is required if necessary.

4. Other reasons

Abnormal vaginal discharge may also be related to endometritis, endometriosis or gynecological tumors. Endometritis is manifested by increased, yellow or bloody vaginal discharge, accompanied by lower abdominal pain; endometriosis may cause increased or bloody vaginal discharge during menstruation; gynecological tumors such as cervical cancer or endometrial cancer may only have abnormal vaginal discharge as an early symptom, and may be accompanied by irregular bleeding or foul odor in the later stages.

Abnormal vaginal discharge is a sign of many gynecological diseases, which need to be treated according to the specific symptoms and causes. If the color, smell or amount of vaginal discharge changes significantly, it is recommended to seek medical attention in time, and make a clear diagnosis through gynecological examination, routine vaginal discharge examination or imaging examination to avoid delaying the disease.
