What causes vaginitis?

Vaginitis is inflammation of the vagina, which is a group of diseases that cause vulvar and vaginal symptoms such as itching, burning pain, irritation and abnormal discharge. The vagina of healthy women has a natural defense function against the invasion of pathogens due to the characteristics of anatomical tissue. When the natural defense function of the vagina is damaged, it leads to vaginal inflammation. Vaginitis can be treated with external defense methods. Under normal circumstances, aerobic bacteria and anaerobic bacteria live in the vagina, forming normal vaginal flora. If the ecological balance between the vagina and the flora is broken for any reason, conditional pathogens can also be formed.

There are many causes of vaginitis, the most common of which are the following:

1. The vulva and vagina are adjacent to the urethra and anus, and are locally moist, making them easily contaminated by urine and feces. Sexual intercourse may also damage the vaginal mucosa and cause infection.

2. The genitals and abdominal cavity are connected to the outside world. When women are menstruating, pregnant, or having sexual intercourse, they may be invaded and infected by external pathogens.

3. After menopause, women's estrogen levels decrease, the vaginal mucosa becomes thinner, and local resistance decreases, making it easy to cause infection.

4. Long-term use of antibiotics to inhibit the growth of Lactobacillus, or immunosuppressants that lead to a decrease in the body's immunity, will also increase the risk of infection.

5. Vaginal flora imbalance, such as long-term use of broad-spectrum antibiotics and large-scale use of immunosuppressants, may also lead to the occurrence of vaginitis.

6. Chronic diseases such as diabetes and liver disease can also affect the body's immunity and lead to infection.

7. Bad living habits such as not paying attention to personal hygiene, unclean sexual life, and using unqualified sanitary products may also lead to the occurrence of vaginitis.

To prevent vaginitis, women should pay attention to personal hygiene, develop correct hygiene habits, maintain good immunity, and take timely and thorough treatment to reduce the risk of recurring vaginitis. At the same time, if symptoms of vaginitis occur, you should seek medical attention in time and follow the doctor's instructions for treatment.
