Delay cell aging and cultivate high-intensity exercise habits

If you want to keep your body active and healthy, besides starting with diet, maintaining good exercise habits is also very important. According to the latest publication from Brigham Young University in the United States recently published in Preventive Medicine, exercise can not only help people maintain a good body shape, but also has the potential to slow down cell aging and make cells younger.

In the study, the authors analyzed data from 5,823 adult subjects from a National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey completed between 1999 and 2002, and examined the relationship between the length of chromosome telomeres in the subjects' cells and their exercise habits. Telomeres are located at the ends of chromosomes and are a series of repeated DNA sequences that can protect chromosomes from shortening due to the process of DNA replication. The length of telomeres is also considered by scientists to be an important indicator for assessing biological age.

The experimental results show that compared with the subjects who often sit for a long time, the subjects with high-intensity exercise habits (women running for 30 minutes five days a week; men running for 40 minutes five days a week) have longer average telomere length, which is equivalent to about 9 years younger in biological age.

The study was published in Preventive Medicine, Volume 100, Pages 145-151
