Fatty liver disease reversal victory! Special medicine: Safe weight loss depends on these 4 methods

Can weight loss reverse fatty liver disease? The survey shows that 1 in 4 people in Taiwan suffers from fatty liver. Doctors point out that the best way to avoid fatty liver is to lose weight, control your diet to eat low-sugar, moderate-protein and low-oil foods, eat more fruits and vegetables, eat more vinegar, and eat foods containing B vitamins, which can alleviate the deterioration of fatty liver lesions.

Dr. Zheng Xiangtai of Guangxin Family Medicine Clinic pointed out that fatty liver is a typical civilization disease with an increasing trend in Taiwan year by year. Risk factors include: alcoholism, obesity, abnormal fat metabolism, viruses, drugs, small intestine surgical resection, rapid weight loss, malnutrition, etc. Fatty liver is not only a disease, but if it is not treated for a long time, it may even lead to cirrhosis or liver cancer.

More than 80% of obese people have fatty liver

Generally speaking, mild fatty liver will not have any subjective symptoms. A small number of patients may experience fatigue, general weakness, nausea, vomiting, decreased appetite, abdominal distension, and a feeling of pressure in the upper abdomen. Most people detect abnormal liver indexes during physical examinations and are diagnosed with fatty liver through imaging equipment such as ultrasound.

Although fatty liver is a chronic disease, domestic clinical statistics indicate that 80% of obese people have fatty liver. People who are overweight (BMI>27), have a waist circumference that exceeds the standard (male waist circumference>90 cm, female waist circumference>80 cm), and have abdominal obesity should be alert to fatty liver even if they have no symptoms and must not take it lightly.

Obese people are at high risk of fatty liver disease, and safe weight loss is the panacea.

Weight loss can effectively prevent fatty liver disease

Dr. Zheng Xiangtai emphasized that the reasons why the liver develops into fatty liver can be divided into two categories: alcoholic fatty liver disease and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. However, the most common cause of fatty liver is acquired metabolic diseases, that is, common chronic diseases such as diabetes, obesity, dyslipidemia, metabolic syndrome, etc.

Basically, weight loss and exercise are the only proven effective treatments for fatty liver disease. Because fatty liver is a reversible condition, it can disappear after adjusting lifestyle habits, including reducing food intake, losing weight and exercising more. Exercise not only consumes calories, but also increases the body's response to insulin.

4 key points to safe weight loss: lose weight slowly

Dr. Zheng Xiangtai reminds that in addition to eating less, in order to lose weight, you must pay attention to the balance of nutrients and not neglect any one. But it should be noted that although losing weight can reverse fatty liver, you must be careful about the following 4 points during weight loss:

1. Before taking diet pills: Diet pills may cause a deficiency of fat-soluble vitamins (especially vitamin E deficiency), which can cause greater damage to the liver. Therefore, during the weight loss process, you should supplement more fat-soluble vitamins.

2. Consult your doctor first: Some weight loss pills cannot be used by patients with heart disease. Please consult your doctor before use.

3. Perform the surgery carefully: Rapid weight loss caused by bariatric surgery may aggravate fatty liver disease. In particular, there have been many cases of patients dying from liver failure after intestinal bypass surgery in China. A careful evaluation with a physician is required before surgery.

4. Do not lose weight quickly: Rapid weight loss will cause adverse metabolic changes, and the dissolution of fat will bring more free fatty acids into the liver, so fatty liver will become more serious.

【Health Tips】:

Studies have shown that if weight loss exceeds 1.6 kg per week, liver tissue deterioration can be observed. Therefore, it is recommended to lose weight slowly, 0.5 kg in a week, 2 kg in a month. This way the pressure will not be too great. The most important thing is to persevere in order to lose weight safely and stay away from the shadow of fatty liver.
