Why does pelvic inflammatory disease also cause nausea and abdominal pain

Pelvic inflammatory disease is a common gynecological inflammation known to many female friends. Pelvic inflammatory disease refers to the inflammation of the female internal reproductive organs and the related pelvic lining tissues around them. The reproductive organs include the uterus, bilateral fallopian tubes, ovaries and the surrounding pelvic lining tissues. When the pelvic cavity is inflamed, the patient will have related clinical inflammation. But did you know that pelvic inflammatory disease can also cause nausea and abdominal pain? Why is this?

In most cases of vomiting, women will think that it is due to enteritis or that they have eaten something they shouldn’t have. However, women ignore an important symptom: nausea and abdominal pain may also be symptoms of acute pelvic inflammatory disease.

Pelvic inflammatory disease is generally mainly salpingitis, but also includes oophoritis, adnexitis, and pelvic peritonitis. When the disease occurs, there is lower abdominal pain accompanied by fever. If the disease is serious, there may be symptoms such as chills, high fever, headache, and loss of appetite.

Pelvic inflammatory disease affects a wide range of areas. Since it is close to the intestinal connection, once it becomes inflamed, it is very likely to cause peritonitis. If peritonitis occurs, digestive system symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, abdominal distension, diarrhea, etc. will appear; if an abscess is formed, there may be a lower abdominal mass and local compression and irritation symptoms; if the mass is located in the front, bladder irritation symptoms such as dysuria and frequent urination may occur. If it causes cystomyositis, there may also be urinary pain. If it is located in the back, rectal irritation symptoms such as tenesmus, anal distension, diarrhea, and difficulty in defecation may occur. When sepsis occurs, it is often accompanied by abscess lesions in other parts of the body. Therefore, women with acute pelvic inflammatory disease will experience symptoms of abdominal pain and nausea.
