What causes chronic pelvic inflammatory disease?

Pelvic inflammatory disease refers to inflammation of the female upper reproductive tract and its surrounding tissues, mainly including endometritis, salpingitis, tubo-ovarian abscess, and pelvic peritonitis. There are many causes of chronic pelvic inflammatory disease, such as pathogen infection, acute pelvic inflammatory disease that is not cured and turns into chronic pelvic inflammatory disease, etc.

So, let us take a closer look at the causes of chronic pelvic inflammatory disease.

First, not paying attention to hygiene during menstruation

During menstruation, the endometrium is shed, the blood sinuses in the uterine cavity are open, and blood clots exist, which are good conditions for bacteria to grow. If you do not pay attention to hygiene during menstruation, use sanitary napkins or toilet paper that do not meet hygiene standards, or have sex, it will provide bacteria with an opportunity for retrograde infection and cause pelvic inflammatory disease.

Second, not paying attention to hygiene after gynecological surgery

Some patients do not pay attention to personal hygiene after surgery, or do not follow the doctor's advice and have sexual intercourse too early, which leads to bacterial ascending infection and induces pelvic inflammatory disease.

Third, the spread of inflammation to adjacent organs

The most common is appendicitis, peritonitis, because of the proximity to the female internal reproductive organs, inflammation spreads directly, and finally induces female pelvic inflammation. When chronic diseases occur, other inflammations may also induce pelvic connective tissue inflammation through lymphatic circulation.

Fourth, postoperative infection leads to pelvic inflammatory disease

If the disinfection is not strict or there is chronic inflammation of the reproductive system during abortion, IUD insertion or removal, fallopian tube insufflation, salpingography, etc., it may lead to postoperative infection and induce pelvic inflammatory disease.
