What is the difference between cervicitis and pelvic inflammatory disease

Cervicitis and pelvic inflammatory disease are two different gynecological inflammations.

The differences are mainly reflected in the following aspects:

1. Site of onset: Cervicitis is an inflammation inside and on the surface of the cervical canal, while pelvic inflammatory disease refers to inflammation of the female pelvic reproductive organs, the connective tissue around the uterus, and the pelvic peritoneum.

2. Causes: Cervicitis is mostly caused by cervical damage caused by sexual intercourse, abortion, childbirth, etc., which leads to pathogens invading the damaged area. Common pathogens include Neisseria gonorrhoeae and Chlamydia trachomatis. The occurrence of pelvic inflammatory disease is related to intrauterine operation, poor hygiene habits, and infection of adjacent organs. Common pathogens include Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, Neisseria gonorrhoeae, etc.

3. Symptoms: Cervicitis is mainly manifested by increased mucopurulent vaginal discharge, vulvar itching and burning sensation, lower abdominal or lumbosacral pain, urinary tract irritation, etc. Pelvic inflammatory disease is mainly manifested by persistent lower abdominal pain, fever, increased vaginal discharge, and in severe cases, chills, high fever, loss of appetite, etc.

4. Treatment methods: The treatment of cervicitis includes antibiotic treatment, local treatment, etc., while the treatment of pelvic inflammatory disease includes antibiotic treatment, puncture surgery, physical therapy, etc.

There are obvious differences between cervicitis and pelvic inflammatory disease in terms of the site of onset, cause, symptoms and treatment methods. In daily life, women should pay attention to maintaining personal hygiene, avoid unclean sexual behavior, and treat gynecological diseases in a timely manner to prevent the occurrence of cervicitis and pelvic inflammatory disease.
