What causes uterine prolapse?

Uterine prolapse, which is the descent of the uterus from its normal position along the vagina, is a common gynecological disease. Its main causes include birth trauma, long-term increased abdominal pressure, pelvic floor tissue dysplasia or degeneration, etc.

1. Childbirth injury: During childbirth, especially in cases of dystocia and delayed labor, the uterine ligaments and pelvic floor muscles may be overstretched or torn. If these tissue injuries are not fully recovered after childbirth, they may become a hidden danger of uterine prolapse in the future. Multiple childbirths will also increase the risk of prolapse.

2. Long-term increased abdominal pressure: such as chronic cough, habitual constipation, heavy physical labor, etc., can cause the uterus to shift downward. These factors need special attention in daily life, especially for women who already have loose pelvic floor tissue.

3. Pelvic floor tissue hypoplasia or degeneration with aging: Due to the decrease in estrogen levels, the tissue supporting the uterus atrophies in older women, making them more prone to prolapse.

For uterine prolapse, prevention is better than cure. In daily life, women should avoid overwork, maintain smooth bowel movements, and actively treat diseases such as chronic cough. After childbirth, women should get enough rest and do appropriate pelvic floor muscle exercises to enhance the support of pelvic floor tissue. If symptoms of uterine prolapse have already appeared, they should seek medical attention in time and choose appropriate treatment methods according to their condition.
