How to treat bacterial vaginosis

How to treat bacterial vaginosis

Treatment for bacterial vaginosis can include vaginal medication, oral antibiotics, topical medication, and Chinese medicine application. If symptoms do not improve or worsen, see a doctor as soon as possible to get appropriate treatment.

1. Vaginal medication

Vaginal medication includes the use of anti-anaerobic drugs such as metronidazole and clindamycin, which are administered vaginally to the affected area. These drugs can directly inhibit or kill the anaerobic bacteria that cause bacterial vaginitis and reduce the inflammatory response.

2. Oral antibiotics

Oral antibiotics usually include amoxicillin and clavulanate potassium tablets, cephalexin capsules, etc., which are taken daily according to the doctor's prescribed dosage. This method can widely eliminate possible pathogenic strains in the body, thereby controlling the progression of the disease.

3. Topical medication

Topical medications include ointments or lotions containing chloramphenicol, chloramphenicol and other ingredients, which can be applied or cleaned according to the instructions. These drugs can reduce the number of local harmful bacteria, improve abnormal secretions, and relieve symptoms such as itching.

4. Apply Chinese medicine externally

For external application of Chinese medicine, you can boil Phellodendron chinense and Sophora flavescens in water and apply it to the lower abdomen area after cooling to a suitable temperature, once a day. Traditional Chinese medicine believes that the above herbs have the effect of clearing heat and drying dampness, which is helpful for relieving abnormal leucorrhea caused by dampness and heat.

Patients should keep their genitals clean and dry, change underwear frequently, and wear underwear made of breathable materials to reduce friction and irritation. Over-the-counter measures such as washing the vulva with a mild, fragrance-free soap are recommended to help reduce the risk of infection.
