What are the causes of irregular menstruation? Can gynecological diseases cause irregular menstruation?

Normal menstruation is an important sign of a mature woman's health. When many women have menstrual disorders, they only consider gynecological diseases such as uterine hypoplasia, acute and chronic pelvic inflammatory disease, and uterine fibroids, but ignore the cause outside the uterus. Many bad habits may also lead to menstrual disorders.

1. Abnormal emotions cause menstrual disorders

Abnormal emotions, long-term mental depression, sulking, or major mental stimulation and psychological trauma can all lead to menstrual disorders or dysmenorrhea or amenorrhea. This is because menstruation is formed after the hormones secreted by the ovaries stimulate the endometrium, and the hormones secreted by the ovaries are controlled by the pituitary gland and hypothalamus. Therefore, any abnormality in the function of the ovaries, pituitary gland, or hypothalamus will affect menstruation.

2. Cold stimulation causes oligomenorrhea or even amenorrhea

According to research, women who are exposed to cold during menstruation will have excessive contraction of blood vessels in the pelvic cavity, which can cause oligomenorrhea or even amenorrhea. Therefore, women should have a regular daily life and avoid overwork, especially during menstruation.

3. Dieting causes irregular menstruation

The cause of irregular menstruation is excessive dieting. Girls need to have body fat accounting for at least 17% of their body weight to have menarche, and body fat must reach at least 22% of their body weight to maintain a normal menstrual cycle. Excessive dieting, due to insufficient energy intake, causes a large amount of fat and protein to be consumed in the body, resulting in a significant deficiency of estrogen synthesis, affecting menstruation, and even causing scanty menstruation or amenorrhea. Therefore, women who pursue a slim figure must not diet blindly.

4. Smoking and drinking cause irregular menstruation

Certain ingredients in cigarette smoke and alcohol can interfere with physiological processes related to menstruation, causing irregular menstruation. Among women who smoke and drink excessively, 25%-32% go to the hospital for treatment due to irregular menstruation. Among women who smoke more than one pack a day or drink more than 100 mg of strong liquor, the incidence of irregular menstruation is three times that of women who do not smoke or drink. Therefore, women should not smoke and drink less.

5. Gynecological diseases cause irregular menstruation

1. Local - caused by its own factors. Common ones include uterine fibroids, especially submucosal fibroids. Even small fibroids can cause menstrual disorders and excessive menstruation; followed by adenomyosis and pelvic endometriosis. Due to the growth of the endometrium to the uterine muscle wall and the enlargement of the uterus, the menstrual volume is often heavy.

2. Systemic factors mainly cause simple menorrhagia when the body is in a high estrogen state.

3. Other reasons include:

①Hematological diseases, such as thrombocytopenia, poor coagulation function and other bleeding diseases;

② Liver disease, hypertension, diabetes, etc. lead to increased vascular fragility and poor coagulation;

③The first menstrual flow after childbirth or miscarriage may be heavier;

④ The use of hormones, anticoagulant drugs, etc. can also cause excessive menstrual flow. If the menstrual flow is heavy, the cause should be found to avoid chronic hemorrhagic anemia and harm to health.
