It’s not intentional~Fat people always move too little, which is actually related to abnormalities in the dopamine system!

We know that exercise can improve health and bring many benefits to the body, but it is not clear why obese people usually exercise less. Recently, Cell Metabolism published the latest publication from the National Institute of Health. Scientists found that the reason why weight gain makes people less motivated to exercise may be related to changes in the number of dopamine receptors, rather than just because obesity makes it more inconvenient for people to move.

In the study, the authors fed the experimental group of mice a high-fat diet for 18 weeks; from the second week onwards, the weight of the experimental group of mice began to be higher than that of the control group. By the fourth week, the mice in the high-fat diet group showed a significant decrease in exercise time and speed. The results showed that mice fed a high-fat diet did show a decrease in activity, but the decrease in activity occurred before they actually became obese, not after they became obese, indicating that excess weight alone is not enough to cause a decrease in exercise.

The authors said that the reduced activity may be related to the dysfunction of the mice's dopamine systems. According to the experimental results, the number of D2 dopamine receptors (D2Rs) in the brains of these experimental group mice decreased, which may be related to the decrease in their limb activity.

The study was published in Cell Metabolism
