Will uterine fibroids cause infertility? What are the hazards of uterine fibroids?

Will uterine fibroids affect pregnancy? Regarding the issue of uterine fibroids, many women with uterine fibroids, especially those who have not yet given birth, have been paying attention to this topic. So, will uterine fibroids affect pregnancy, or even affect pregnancy? Let us know together;

Generally, small or single subserosal and intramural uterine fibroids do not affect pregnancy and pregnancy. Uterine fibroids can cause infertility:

(1) Larger uterine fibroids can deform the uterine cavity, which is not conducive to sperm passage, fertilized egg implantation and fetal development.

(2) Fibroids growing near the uterine horns can compress the opening of the fallopian tubes, causing blockage.

(3) Myomas growing within the lumen of the fallopian tube can stretch and twist the surface of the fallopian tube, squeeze the lumen, affect its patency, or displace the ovary, widen the distance between the ovary and the fallopian tube, and hinder the egg retrieval function of the fimbria of the fallopian tube.

(4) Uterine fibroids growing in the cervix can compress the cervical canal, obstruct the passage, or change the direction of the cervical opening, moving it away from the semen pool in the posterior fornix, making it difficult for sperm to enter the cervical opening.

(5) Uterine fibroids growing under the mucosa of the uterine cavity are like a spherical intrauterine device, which hinders fertility. The ischemia, necrosis and atrophy of the endometrium on the surface of the uterine cavity are also not conducive to the implantation of the fertilized egg.

(6) Uterine fibroids can cause the frequency, range and duration of uterine contractions to exceed the normal baseline, interfering with the implantation of the fertilized egg or causing miscarriage after implantation. When fibroids are accompanied by uterine periosteal proliferation, it means that the ovaries do not ovulate. Fibroids can cause uterine bleeding, infection, and block the fallopian tubes, which can cause infertility.

So, is it possible to get pregnant with uterine fibroids?

Uterine fibroids are a benign uterine tumor that is very common in women of childbearing age. The location of the growth of the fibroids, such as compressing the fallopian tubes, will affect the movement of sperm and eggs, leading to infertility. Once pregnant, the fibroids will grow rapidly with the growth of the uterus, especially after the second trimester of pregnancy, "degeneration", abdominal pain, fever and other symptoms. Uterine fibroids can sometimes easily lead to miscarriage and premature birth. Generally speaking, women with uterine fibroids and subserosal fibroids with a diameter of less than 2 cm can become pregnant. However, before pregnancy, the diameter of uterine fibroids grows to more than 3 cm, and the chances of pregnancy growth, degeneration, miscarriage, and premature birth increase; or the diameter of the fibroids is less than 3 cm, but the growth site is not good, such as the uterine cavity, cervix or compression of the fallopian tubes affects infertility. It is best to perform surgery to remove the fibroids before pregnancy. All women of childbearing age with uterine fibroids must decide whether to become pregnant after a gynecological examination.
