What should I do if I have cervical erosion? What should I pay attention to during sexual life?

Many women go for gynecological examinations. The doctor says there is cervical erosion. It is recommended to treat it as soon as possible. If they don't treat it, they may become cancerous. Listening to the doctor, female friends are scared to death. However, some people say that cervical erosion is nothing. As long as there is no bleeding, there is no need for treatment at all. So, what's wrong with cervical erosion? Does it really cause cancer?

Physiological cervical erosion is not a disease

In fact, "cervical erosion" cannot be understood literally, because it is not erosion in the true sense. After women mature, under the action of estrogen, the columnar epithelium in the cervical canal grows outward and will replace the original squamous epithelium covering the part. Because the columnar epithelium is thin, rich in capillaries, and red in color, cervical erosion is named. In other words, many mature women have such symptoms.

Cervical erosion refers to the congestion, redness and granular appearance of the external cervical opening. The truth under the microscope is that the columnar epithelium in the endocervical canal moves to the external cervical opening after puberty. In other words, it retracts into the endocervical canal after menopause.

Today, the medical community has reached a consensus that cervical erosion should be called cervical columnar epithelial cell outmigration or cervical erosion changes. This is a physiological manifestation, not a disease.

During puberty, pregnancy or when taking oral contraceptives, changes in estrogen levels can also lead to hyperplasia of the columnar epithelium of the cervical canal. In addition, childbirth, abortion, puerperal infection or sexual intercourse, surgical damage to the cervix, and infection caused by pathogen invasion can also lead to changes in cervical erosion samples. Generally speaking, mild erosion under physiological conditions will not cause an increase in leucorrhea, while moderate and severe erosion after infection may increase leucorrhea, change in properties, sometimes blood in leucorrhea, and a few people may bleed after sexual intercourse.

Does cervical erosion cause cancer?

Cervical erosion is not the main cause of cervical cancer. Modern medicine has proven that almost all cervical cancer and its precancerous lesions are related to human papillomavirus (HpV) infection. Women with cervical erosion should go to the hospital for diagnosis and treatment if they find that their leucorrhea is obviously abnormal and accompanied by symptoms such as low back pain.

The doctor will first do a cervical cytology smear to rule out cervical cancer; secondly, the pathogens should be identified, such as Chlamydia trachomatis, Neisseria gonorrhoeae, Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus aureus, anaerobic bacteria, Escherichia coli, etc. These pathogenic microorganisms can cause cervicitis, and treatment is to eliminate these sources.

What should you pay attention to during sexual intercourse when you have cervical erosion?

Although cervical erosion is a local lesion, it directly affects women's physical and mental health. Cervical erosion not only brings pain to patients, but also carries the risk of infertility and cervical cancer (data show that the incidence of cervical cancer is 4.4 times higher than that of normal people). The larger the erosion area, the greater the risk factor. Timely treatment of cervical erosion is a measure to remedy the situation.

Relevant experts believe that cervical erosion is closely related to sexual life. Due to the barrier function of the hymen, unmarried women usually do not have foreign objects invading the vagina, so cervical erosion rarely occurs. Once married and having sexual intercourse, the vagina is relatively "open" and can be invaded by foreign bacteria.

Of course, a normal and healthy sex life generally does not cause any harm to women, because normal semen contains bactericidal substances that can disinfect the vagina; at the same time, the female vagina also has a strong self-cleaning physiological function and has the ability to naturally resist the invasion of foreign bacteria.

If men and women can carefully clean the external genitalia and perineum before each sexual intercourse and pay attention to cleanliness, it will generally not cause female genital inflammation. However, if you do not pay attention to cleanliness during sex, bacteria will have the opportunity to invade the vagina. In addition, due to the complex branching of female cervical glands and the many wrinkled walls of the cervical canal, the infection is not easy to completely eliminate, which increases the possibility of female genital inflammation.

It is reported that the age group with the highest incidence of this disease is 20-30 years old, accounting for 51 years old. The second is 30-40 years old, accounting for 44%. 20%. Although women aged 20-40 have higher estrogen levels and have a certain vaginal self-cleaning effect, the incidence of trichomonas vaginitis, fungal vaginitis, and non-specific vaginitis also rises synchronously due to frequent sexual life, bacterial infection and mechanical damage, providing a "hotbed" for cervical erosion. In addition, multiple sexual partners, menstrual sexual life, and excessive sexual stimulation are also factors that cannot be ignored in causing cervical erosion.

According to statistics, the occurrence of cervical erosion is also related to the menstrual cycle and duration: the prevalence rate for menstrual cycles ≤20 days is 81.80%, and the prevalence rate for those ≥43-20 days is 43.81%, which is a very obvious difference; the prevalence rate for menstrual cycles ≤33 days is only 33.33%, while the prevalence rate for those ≥8 days is 83.33%, which is a significant difference.

More importantly, women may suffer varying degrees of cervical lacerations during childbirth or miscarriage, which opens a convenient door for pathogens and leads to cervical inflammation in the future. Due to the stimulation of inflammation, local secretions increase, and the cervix is immersed in inflammatory secretions for a long time, which can lead to erosion. Gynecological surgeries such as repeated miscarriage, diagnostic scraping, and cervical dilation may cause cervical injury or inflammation, and ultimately lead to cervical erosion.
