Is ultrasound examination necessary for pelvic inflammatory disease? Only for serious cases

Pelvic inflammatory disease can be treated with B-ultrasound examination, but it is only suitable for patients with severe disease and severe local symptoms. It is not suitable for patients with mild disease and no obvious local symptoms. Common examination items for diagnosing pelvic inflammatory disease mainly include pathogen culture, ultrasound examination and secretion smear test.

Pelvic inflammatory disease is different from other gynecological diseases in that it cannot be diagnosed based on its symptoms alone. It is necessary to use appropriate examination items to accurately detect the condition and determine the severity of the condition. B-ultrasound is a common examination item in gynecological examinations. So, is pelvic inflammatory disease diagnosed by B-ultrasound?
1. Is it necessary to do B-ultrasound examination for pelvic inflammatory disease?
If pelvic inflammatory disease is serious and has induced local pelvic effusion, there is tissue thickening in the pelvic adnexal area, or venous tortuosity in the pelvis, B-ultrasound examination can be selected for diagnosis. However, for pelvic inflammatory disease with mild inflammation, there is only local inflammatory reaction and the symptoms are relatively mild. B-ultrasound examination cannot detect specific changes in the condition, so it is not necessary to do B-ultrasound examination, and other examination items are needed to confirm the condition.
2. What tests are needed to diagnose pelvic inflammatory disease?
1. Pathogen culture
Pathogen culture is one of the main detection methods for diagnosing pelvic inflammatory disease. It is fast in diagnosis and has replaced the traditional chlamydia test. The results of this test are highly recognized, with a sensitivity of about 90% and a specificity of about 95%.
2. Ultrasound examination
Ultrasound examination is also used to diagnose pelvic inflammation, with an accuracy rate of about 85% to 88%. Ultrasound examination can accurately detect whether there is local inflammation and whether there are other complications.
3. Secretion smear test
The secretion smear test mainly extracts the patient's vaginal mucus or secretions from the cervical canal, urethra and other parts or peritoneal fluid to make a thin layer smear directly, and then stains it with Gram or methylene blue after drying. The specific disease is judged according to the test results. If the test is positive, it indicates pelvic inflammatory disease; if the test is negative, the disease can be ruled out. The accuracy of this test method can reach about 89%, so it is more widely used in clinical practice.
